We are seeking a motivated early-academic researcher interested in gaining hands-on experience in computer vision, machine learning, and plant phenotyping. This position is designed as a high-mentorship, research-focused opportunity ideal for individuals looking to build foundational skills and explore academic research pathways. This temporary position will end in June 2026.
You will contribute to a multi-modal computer vision project focused on tomato disease detection and severity assessment. The work integrates
RGB imagery, 3D/multispectral data, and time-series analysis to study disease progression over time. This project offers exposure to modern deep learning workflows, data preprocessing, and analysis of real-world agricultural datasets.
Responsibilities
- Assist in building datasets involving multimodal plant imagery (RGB, RGB-D, multispectral)
- Support preprocessing pipelines: image lighting corrections, normalization, and feature extraction
- Train and evaluate deep learning models (e.g., EfficientNet, YOLO, ViT, or multi-task CNNs)
- Explore time-series methods for modeling disease severity progression
- Conduct literature searches and summarize scientific papers
- Participate in weekly check-ins, present updates, and document results
- Work collaboratively and contribute to conference materials (posters, slides, short papers)
