This position will contribute to the machine learning and signal processing research efforts currently underway within Starkey's Algorithms and Data Technology research group. We are specifically looking for interns with knowledge of audio signal processing and deep neural networks.

Detailed Description

This position will contribute to the machine learning and signal processing research efforts currently underway within Starkey's Algorithms and Data Technology research group. We are specifically looking for interns with knowledge of audio signal processing and deep neural networks.


Approach and Deployment

Gain valuable industry experience by participating in Starkey's Signal Processing Research internship program



  • Get up to speed on the Algorithms Research group's role within the organization
  • Familiarize self with group members, working environment, processes, and equipment
  • Meet every two weeks with the Manager of Algorithms to track progress and provide updates
  • Follow guidance and direction from Sr Engineers
  • Work independently or as a team member as necessary


Increase knowledge of signal processing technologies by assisting in the research of new algorithms to be used in Starkey's future hearing aid products.



  • Write high-level simulations for proof of concept and exploration of algorithm behavior
  • Design and implement effective methods for evaluation of algorithms
  • Develop and train machine learning models for signal processing applications
  • Explore computational efficiencies for algorithms
  • Verify the performance of real time algorithms
  • Follow proper documentation procedures
  • Produce scientific publications from research, if necessary


Results - Performance Measures

  • Quality and timeliness of research reports
  • Thoroughness of algorithm evaluations
  • Data analysis and presentation of conclusions
  • Feedback from Sr Engineers and peers


Other Duties

  • Support Starkey Employee Corporate and/or Department Guidelines.
  • Check and verify quality.
  • Support corporate health and safety objectives.
  • React to change productively and handle other essential duties as assigned.


Job Requirements

Education



  • Master's degree or higher in Electrical Engineer or related field


Experience



  • 0-2 years of signal processing research experience required
  • Research experience with hearing aids or cochlear implants preferred
  • Experience in audio signal processing, psychoacoustics, or acoustics is preferred
  • Experience in machine learning methods and deep learning preferred


Knowledge / Technical Requirements



  • Knowledge of audio signal processing theory required
  • Familiarity with speech analysis, array processing, and audio classification algorithms desired
  • knowledge of modern machine learning techniques including deep neural networks is desired


Skills & Abilities



  • Proficiency in Matlab or Python is required
  • Good verbal and written communication skills is required


Salary and Other Compensation:

The target pay rate for this position is $39.00 per hour. Factors which may affect starting pay within this range may include: geography/market, skills, education, experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
