Position / Department Summary
The Pediatric Intermediate Care Unit (PIMCU) and Complex Care Services (CCS) seek a Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) for a flexible inpatient role supporting both services through extended service rotations, providing several consecutive months on each team to promote deeper clinical immersion and continuity of care. This Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will serve as a primary clinical provider for infants, children, and adolescents with acute illness, chronic disease, and medical complexity requiring high-level inpatient care outside of the ICU setting.

The PIMCU provides intensive nursing and medical support for higher-acuity patients, while the inpatient CCS team is a nationally recognized inpatient service caring for children with complex chronic conditions and functional limitations. This APP will collaborate closely with supervising physicians, pediatric trainees (residents and fellows), nursing staff, and interdisciplinary teams to deliver safe, high-quality, and patient-centered care across both services. This role offers a fast-paced, collaborative environment with opportunities for professional growth, education, quality improvement, and research.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive evaluation, assessment, and management of infants, children, and adolescents admitted to PIMCU and/or CCS with acute, chronic, and medically complex conditions.
  • Serve as a primary provider, facilitating daily patient care including medical histories, physical examinations, diagnostic evaluation, and development and implementation of evidence-based treatment plans.
  • Actively participate in multidisciplinary rounds, including patient presentation and coordination of care with consulting services.
  • Collaborate closely with supervising physicians, pediatric trainees, nursing teams, and interdisciplinary colleagues to promote optimal clinical outcomes and patient safety.
  • Manage patients with complex medical needs, including infections, exacerbations of chronic conditions, post-operative recovery, and technology dependence.
  • Support and participate in quality improvement, patient safety, educational, and/or research initiatives.
  • Serve as a clinical resource and contribute to staff education as appropriate.
  • Orientation includes a structured, individualized onboarding program across both inpatient areas, tailored to each APP's experience level, clinical background, and learning needs.
  • Inpatient, 12-hour shifts, 36 hours/week with up to 50% rotating days/nights and up to every 3rd weekend. Holiday coverage depending on service needs.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
  • Master's degree in Nursing (APRN) or Physician Assistant Studies required.
Experience
  • Minimum of 2+ years of inpatient pediatric experience preferred, particularly with higher-acuity or medically complex patients.
  • 1+ year of Pediatric NP or PA experience preferred.
  • Experience caring for children with medical complexity strongly preferred.
  • New graduate NP's may be considered with at least 2 years of recent pediatric inpatient RN experience and/or strong inpatient pediatric clinical rotations with a similar patient population.
Licensure / Certifications
  • Current MA NP license (PNP preferred; FNP with pediatric inpatient experience considered) or MA PA license required.
  • BLS required; PALS strongly preferred.
