POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible for the optimal functioning of the Emergency Department, in conjunction with the ED Operations Manager, by providing oversight to the ED Unit Coordinator (UC) Team to ensure the ED UC Team provides the necessary administrative support to the ED clinical teams, and patients, staff, ED stakeholders receive excellent customer service, quality patient care, and are referred to the appropriate sources.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:

Department Operations


  • Ensures that the Emergency Department operates smoothly, efficiently, and professionally on a daily basis.
  • Works to improve departmental productivity, workflow, and cost effectiveness.
  • Acts as a liaison with internal and external patients, staff, vendors, and contractors to support seamless operations.
  • Participates in Facilities and Environmental Services rounds to escalate, troubleshoot, and follow up on issues and work orders.
  • Keeps office and clinical equipment in working order, assists with assembling new equipment, and contacts vendors, IT, Clinical Engineering, or others as needed for repairs or replacements.
  • Works with Unit Coordinators to monitor office supply and equipment inventory.
  • Provides backup support for Operations team and Unit Coordinators during breaks, absences, or high-volume periods.

Staffing & Leadership


  • Assists with new hire orientation, onboarding, training, task assignment, and daily supervision of Unit Coordinators.
  • Collaborates with the ED Operations Manager to create and maintain orientation schedules for all new staff.
  • Maintains the monthly schedule for ED Unit Coordinators and assists with employee scheduling and timekeeping.
  • Mentors, guides, and motivates staff by modeling best practices and professional conduct.
  • Monitors the performance and procedural compliance of Unit Coordinators and completes annual performance appraisals.
  • Works with the ED Operations Manager and ED Leadership Team to address employee relations matters, utilizing appropriate BMC resources.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:


  • AnAssociate's degree in Business or related field (or equivalent combination of formal education and experience).
  • Requires at least three years of relevant work experience with one of the required years of experience in healthcare, customer service, managed care or medical insurance.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:


  • Excellent organizational skills to set priorities and efficiently complete assigned work.
  • Ability to effectively speak, read, and write English.
  • Requires excellent communication, interpersonal and problem solving skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills and ability to communicate in a courteous, pleasant and professional manner with patients, general public, staff members, outside agencies, and all other internal and external contacts.
  • Ability to work independently and to make decisions based on department polices and established procedures.
  • Demonstrated technical competency using standard hospital computer systems including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), web browsers, and hospital registration systems.
  • Must be able to maintain strict protocols of all confidential or sensitive information.

Compensation Range:

$43,000.00- $62,000.00

This range offers an estimate based on the minimum job qualifications. However, our approach to determining base pay is comprehensive, and a broad range of factors is considered when making an offer. This includes education, experience, skills, and certifications/licensures as they directly relate to position requirements; as well as business/organizational needs, internal equity, and market-competitiveness.
