Community Intervention Specialist

Department of Health and Human Services

Hourly Range: $25.11 - $37.65

The Milwaukee County Department of Health & Human Services has established a county-wide goal to improve equitable service delivery and develop an organizational culture of equity. The department is working to ensure that every employee has the knowledge, skills, and resources to address racial disparities and inequities which impact many of our most vulnerable customers, who are children, youth, and their families.

Job Summary: The Community Intervention Specialist (CIS) serves as a link between the Children, Youth, and Family Services (CYFS) department and local violence reduction efforts. This role is responsible for providing administrative grant support to the Community Violence Intervention (CVI) Program Manager, coordinating community engagement activities and events, as well as collaborating with community members, partners, and stakeholders across Milwaukee County.

This role will have particular responsibilities related to supporting CYFS' implementation of the Advance Peace program and will entail coordination with the local nonprofit serving as implementation partner for Advance Peace. The Advance Peace evidence-based model invests in the those at the center gun violence in by engaging high-risk individuals in one-on-one, personalized Peacemaker Fellowships to build new opportunities and break the cycle of gun violence.

Job Duties:

• Community and Stakeholder Engagement. Develop and strengthen relationships with community partners and stakeholders by leading community engagement and outreach activities. Communicate and collaborate with members of the community and partners in the violence reduction efforts.
• Collect, retrieve, and maintain data for reporting purposes. Provide up-to-date and accurate data for grant reporting. Write and submit grant reports as requested.
• Support the leadership team on special projects and the development of CYFS protocols. Implement and manage assigned projects. Establish relationships with violence reduction partners. Identify resources and unmet needs in the community. Coordinate from a public health and community response perspective.
• Support the CVI Program Manager in grant administration and reporting, assist in managing the Advance Peace model, and coordinate with the planning team. Assist in planning community forums and community engagement events, and coordinate travel logistics. Assist with public awareness campaigns, collaborate with project partners, and represent CYFS' work on Advance Peace and Community Violence Intervention (CVI) activities at events.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

• Current resident of the State of Wisconsin.
• Current Wisconsin Driver's License.
• Bachelor's degree in Human Services, Social Work, Community Relations, Criminal Justice, or closely related field from an accredited college or university is required.
• At least one (1) year of experience in Project Management within a Crime Analysis, Youth Justice, Community Outreach and Engagement, or related field is required.
• Must be able to travel extensively, up to 20% of work time, within the community
• Advanced knowledge of all related computer and software applications, such as word processing and spreadsheets.
• Intermediate knowledge of MC Access, Database Concepts and Reporting software required.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Some familiarity with Community Violence Intervention (CVI) or violence prevention strategies.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of youth justice; knowledge of case management; knowledge of data entry policy and procedures; ability to engage with community stakeholders; ability to work with individuals with a wide range of needs; ability to push, pull, lift, carry up to 10lbs as needed.
