Job Summary

The Manager Prisma Health Ambulance Services (PHAS) assists the Director with the operations of PHAS. Manages operations of non-emergency transport services provided to the patients of Prisma Health including the PACE program both in the upstate and the midlands. Works collaboratively with all team members of PHAS to ensure staff and responding units are equipped to meet all needs of the community through proper allocation and utilization of inventory assets. Leads development and implementation of innovative concepts to improve operational effectiveness and ensure quality of care is provided to all patients. Assists with the development of technology within and around PHAS ensuring department needs are managed and technical support is provided as needed. Continues to assist with operations as needed and will assist as needed in the role of Paramedic.
This position is located in Columbia, SC and will support Ambulance Services in the Midlands area.

Essential Functions

  • Manages transportation supervisors and oversee all drivers in various markets.

  • Provides daily operational guidance. Lead, coach, and develop supervisors and drivers to promote safety, accountability, and participant-centered service.

  • Coordinates with PACE leadership and other PACE departments (nursing, therapy, dietary, social work, etc.) to align transportation with participant care plans and operational priorities.

  • Oversees resources to ensure appropriate utilization of all assets. Lead expansion initiatives including onboarding of new vehicles and staff.

  • Assists with the development of technology ensuring department needs are managed and technical support is provided as needed.

  • Responsible for and provides oversight of the dispatch software.

  • Oversees daily routing, dispatch, and scheduling processes, ensuring optimization of routes and adherence to all scheduling policies.

  • Manages fleet operations, ensuring preventative maintenance, inspections, and compliance.

  • Ensures systems and staff maintain optimal operational readiness for scheduled and unscheduled/demand transports.

  • Develops and presents operational reports (transport volumes, safety incidents. Staffing performance, etc.) to leadership.

  • Monitors and manages transportation budgets, milage, fuel usage, and contracted vendor performance across both markets.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervisory/Management Responsibilities

  • Job has direct and/or indirect supervision of employees that may include budget input, hire/termination/disciplinary authority, and performance appraisal responsibility. Job will be considered a member of the management staff with direct reports in both the Upstate and Midlands Prisma Health locations.

Minimum Education

  • Education - Bachelor's Degree in Emergency Management Services, Business, or Health Administration, or related fieldof study

  • Experience - Five (5) years clinical experience in an emergency medical care and/or transportation management. Three (3) years supervisory experience.

In Lieu Of

  • In lieu of education and experience detail above, an equivalent combination of work/education may be considered (i.e., High School Diploma or equivalent plus eight (8) years of experience).

Required Certifications, Registrations, Licenses

  • National PARAMEDIC or EMT certification

  • SC PARAMEDIC or EMT certification (Required for team members working in South Carolina)

  • A valid driver's license; an acceptable motor vehicle record, as defined by the Acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) Chart; and proof of auto insurance.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Moderate computer skills and knowledge of dispatch software.

  • Patient care (related to the EMS) skills

  • Strong leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills.

  • Basic cardiac life support and advanced cardiac life support skills

  • Experience with fleet management software preferred.
