Acara Solutions is seeking a Senior Process Engineer for Capital Projects, to join our client on a Full Time Direct Hire opportunity available in Rochester NY

  • Salary: $120,000 - $140,000 DOE
  • Bonus: Up to 15% of base salary

Role Summary
Leads process and project engineering execution for small to large chemical process system projects. Performs full process engineering, project engineering, limited construction oversight, and project management responsibilities. Provides design, specification, procurement, documentation, testing, startup, and customer support.
Key Responsibilities
Process Engineering
  • Define project requirements, standards, and Basis of Design with customers and internal teams.
  • Develop PFDs; perform Mass & Energy Balances and utilities calculations; support CAD development.
  • Develop P&IDs; define/size process equipment (heat exchangers, reactors, tanks, pumps, vacuum systems).
  • Define instrumentation and piping components; complete relief system sizing and documentation.
  • Participate in PHAs/HAZOPs; provide commissioning/startup and post-startup support.
Project Engineering
  • Participate in project, model review, and hazard meetings.
  • Coordinate with internal engineering and operations to ensure proper design and delivery of equipment.
  • Specify and procure process equipment, instruments, and piping; prepare bid packages; evaluate suppliers; manage procurement.
  • Oversee 3D model and drawing development; review/check drawings.
  • Prepare fabrication bid packages; select fabricators; prepare FAT/SAT documentation.
  • Develop operating manuals and all technical project documentation.
Construction & Vendor Oversight
  • Visit supplier/fabrication facilities; inspect work for compliance.
  • Support FAT execution and punch-list resolution.
Project Management
  • Manage schedule, actions, technical queries, documents, and project records.
  • Execute customer/vendor communications and transmittals.
  • Manage change requests and change orders.
  • Conduct post-project review and lessons learned.
Other
  • Support Applications Engineering with equipment/instrument sizing and cost estimating as needed.
Supervisory
  • No direct reports; reviews and approves work of supporting Project Engineers and contractors/vendors.
Travel
  • Light travel required (<5%) for customer sites, suppliers, and fabricators.
Job Requirements
Required Skills / Qualifications:
  • Chemical Engineering Degree
  • Minimum 8 years chemical process system design experience (heat transfer, fluid flow, mass transfer), including equipment, instrumentation, and piping design.
Additional Skills / Qualifications:
  • Experience in both process engineering and project engineering required; project management experience preferred.
  • Ability to read technical specs, PFDs, and P&IDs.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; customer-facing communication required.
  • Self-starter; able to work independently and in teams.
  • Proficient English communication.
  • Ability to perform core process engineering calculations (flow, mass transfer, pressure, temperature, conversions, etc.).
