Job Title: Medical Laboratory Scientist

Shift: 2nd Shift | 12:00 PM - 8:00 PM

Job Summary
The Medical Laboratory Scientist is responsible for performing high-complexity laboratory testing, analyzing and reporting patient results, and ensuring compliance with all regulatory, quality, and safety standards. This role requires strong technical expertise across multiple laboratory disciplines and the ability to work independently on second shift.
Key Responsibilities
Follow laboratory procedures for specimen handling, processing, testing, reporting, and record maintenance
Analyze specimens using approved testing procedures per department SOPs
Review, verify, and release test results
Maintain proficiency testing records and ensure samples are handled the same as patient specimens
Adhere to CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and all laboratory safety guidelines
Perform and document quality control activities, instrument calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting
Identify testing or system issues that may affect results and take corrective action or notify leadership
Document all corrective actions when test systems deviate from established performance standards
Report STAT and critical results according to department procedures
Maintain complete and accurate testing records
Ensure proper reagent labeling, including received, opened, and expiration dates
Maintain general cleanliness and organization of the department
Train on new procedures and attend monthly department meetings and required educational sessions
Participate in safety training and regulatory inspections as required
Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor
Required Knowledge & Skills
Strong understanding of basic and advanced laboratory testing
Knowledge of Quality Control (QC) and Quality Assurance (QA) practices
Proficiency in multiple laboratory information and computer systems
Ability to multitask and prioritize work in a fast-paced environment
Strong communication and customer service skills
Commitment to patient confidentiality at all times
Education Requirements
Preferred: BS in Medical Technology
Acceptable Alternatives:
BS/BA in Chemistry or Biology
Associate's degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Technology
Previously qualified as a Technologist under 42 CFR 493.1433 (published March 14, 1990)
Foreign-educated candidates must provide a detailed credential evaluation from IERF
U.S.-educated candidates must provide an official original transcript
Must possess or be eligible for national certification as MT/MLT from ASCP or AMT
