Organizational Unit Overview
The College of Nursing is an academic unit of East Carolina University, located on Health Sciences Campus. The purpose of the Nurse Anesthesia (NA) program is to provide students with opportunities for learning experiences that will prepare them, upon completion, to meet requirements to be eligible to sit for the Nurse Anesthesia National Certification Examination. The administrative assistant for the NA program will work closely with the program director, faculty members and 36 nurse anesthesia residents. This position will primarily perform duties for the program director and other faculty associated with the program.
Job Duties
This position maintains several student databases, organizes, and collates all program evaluation data each semester including student evaluation of external rotations, internal rotations (36 residents with 15 rotations each), and schedules students counseling. Records students daily evaluations into database and creates semester reports including self-evaluations and clinical evaluations, and coordinates annual program evaluation data, graduate school applications, and internal applications. This position organizes and coordinates student admission interviews, an internal graduation celebration, student and faculty travel. He or she will be familiar with faculty teaching schedule and prepares teaching adjuncts such as console, SimMan, SimBaby operating room teaching adjuncts for faculty and guest lecturers.
The work of this position includes effectively managing the administrative support functions for the program such as: submission of College and University forms (i.e., Book Orders, Faculty Report forms, Grade Sheets, Class Roll Verifications, etc.), preparation of Petitions to Travel and Reimbursement of Travel, recording and preparing minutes for program meetings and the typing of confidential program materials, student registration using Banner, and record keeping in Degree Works. This position is also responsible for collecting and posting grades for the program at the end of the semester for the courses in the Nurse Anesthesia Concentration which requires confidentiality. This position also supports faculty by retrieving electronic versions of requested journal articles.

This administrative assistant serves as the program assistant for the Nurse Anesthesia Program Director and Program. The person in this position is the first point of contact for the program office, greets visitors to the office, answers all incoming telephone calls and e-mails, and assists them in every way possible. This employee has daily contact with administrators, faculty and staff in the College of Nursing, University, and outside agencies including several hospitals, state and national organizations. She/he is in frequent contact with people in and outside the University through written correspondence, telephone calls, and e-mail requesting information, giving information, and handling various functions involving the core of the anesthesia program.
This employee schedules appointments and maintains the office calendar and Program Director. Coordinates meeting schedules and arrangements with University and College administrators and faculty, as well as outside agency. This employee also takes minutes for NAP meetings.

The employee's knowledge base must be sufficient in each relevant area of the overall operations of the Program, College and University. Her/his capabilities must include the ability to set priorities and to recognize the important issues in the activities of the overall administration of the office.

This is a grant funded position; employment is contingent on available funding.
