Project Manager - Medical Coding Operations

Currently recruiting a Project Manager (Work from Anywhere) to lead remote medical coding operations providing strategic, operational, and compliance oversight for a proposed large-scale medical coding program supporting Department of Defense (DoD) healthcare facilities. This role is responsible for the leadership, performance management, and quality assurance of 100+ Medical Coders across all levels (I III), ensuring compliance with Defense Health Agency (DHA) standards, DoDI 6040.42, and Military Health System (MHS) policies. A strong DoD or federal healthcare background is highly preferred.

DUTIES OF THE PROJECT MANAGER INCLUDE:

  • Provide enterprise-level program management and oversight of medical coding operations across inpatient, outpatient, professional, ancillary, and ERSA services.
  • Supervise and manage a workforce of 100+ Medical Coders (Levels I III) across multiple locations and service lines.
  • Ensure compliance with DoDI 6040.42, DHA coding guidance, official coding guidelines, and federal regulations.
  • Oversee DRG assignment accuracy, RVU/RWP capture, reimbursement integrity, and workload credit optimization.
  • Develop and manage quality assurance programs, internal audits, and corrective action plans.
  • Oversee operational use of MHS GENESIS, 3M Encompass 360, Joint Legacy Viewer (JLV), and other military coding systems.
  • Lead recruitment, onboarding, training, performance evaluations, and professional development of coding staff.
  • Prepare executive-level reports and brief senior leadership on productivity, compliance, risks, and performance trends.


QUALIFICATIONS OF THE PROJECT MANAGER:

Education
  • Bachelor s degree in Health Information Management, Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or related field (required).
  • Master s degree in Healthcare Administration, Health Informatics, Business Administration, or Project Management (preferred).

Certifications (Required)
  • RHIA, RHIT, CCS, or CPC (active and in good standing).

Certifications (Preferred)
  • PMP or CAPM;Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or higher;CPMA.
