Davidson College invites applications for a two-year position at the level of Visiting Assistant Professor of Physics starting July 1, 2026. We seek a physicist whose teaching practice is designed to reach students from all backgrounds and who will primarily teach our introductory studio (combined lecture and laboratory) physics courses. Depending on interest and experience, teaching an advanced course or a course in our first-year writing program is possible. The college teaching expectation is five classes per year. Candidates should be highly committed to excellence in teaching undergraduates. While this is primarily a teaching position, the ability to conduct scholarly research with our undergraduate students is valued. Candidates must possess a PhD in Physics or related field by July 2026. Apply online only at http://employment.davidson.edu. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled, but preference will be given to those who apply by February 15, 2026. Inquiries may be sent to Dr. Mario Belloni at mabelloni@davidson.edu. Along with your application, please include (1) a cover letter of no more than 2 pages addressing professional interests and aspirations pertaining to teaching and research, (2) a curriculum vitae, (3) a teaching philosophy of no more than 2 pages that describes your teaching and your approach to teaching inclusively, (4) a research description of no more than 2 pages that describes your research interests and how they are accessible to undergraduates, and (5) contact information for three references. Davidson College is committed to access and opportunity for students from all backgrounds and perspectives. In your application materials, candidates should demonstrate the capacity for excellence in teaching, research, and mentorship in a liberal arts context, and give examples of ways you have been intentional about incorporating inclusive teaching and mentoring practices in your academic endeavors. In the interest of an equitable hiring process, we will neither review any additional materials nor read beyond the page limits listed for each document. Please provide the names and email addresses of three references. Reference letters will be requested for selected candidates early in the search process. At least one reference letter must specifically and substantially address your interests and experience in teaching. | |
