HJF is seeking a Clinical Research Nurse (Radiation Oncology) in support of the Uniformed Services University, Department of Surgery's Murtha Cancer Center Research Program (MCCRP) and the Radiation Oncology clinic at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. MCCRP's mission is to improve the diagnosis and multidisciplinary treatment of DoD cancer patients through innovative translational research, evidence-based translational care, and education. Through coordination and alignment with tri-service cancer research initiatives throughout the Military Health System, the MCCRP enhances the readiness of the military, its families, and beneficiaries.

The John P. Murtha Cancer Center at Walter Reed Bethesda is a modern, patient-centric, tri-service military healthcare facility. Its comprehensive core of military and civilian oncologists and other cancer-trained clinicians and researchers provide multidisciplinary cancer-care delivery and patient-family support services. Our Cancer Center, the only DoD Cancer Center of Excellence within the Military Health System, offers its patients access to cutting-edge cancer diagnostic and treatment technologies.

The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. We serve military, medical, academic and government clients by administering, managing and supporting preeminent scientific programs that benefit members of the armed forces and civilians alike. Since its founding in 1983, HJF has served as a vital link between the military medical community and its federal and private partners. HJF's support and administrative capabilities allow military medical researchers and clinicians to maintain their scientific focus and accomplish their research goals.

  • Educates the patients and their families on the research protocol and what the patient responsibilities are. Interviews patients to collect data on health history and lifestyle practices.
  • Reviews new patient records and screens patients for eligibility for participating in research protocol.
  • Administers appropriate drugs to patients as necessary. Draws blood and obtain other specimens as required.
  • Identifies problems in the research design or analysis methodology and trends in patient reactions to treatment. Collects, organizes, catalogs, disseminates, and maintains appropriate files of current data.
  • Maintains weekly/monthly status reports on all patients.
  • Schedules all patient examinations, repeat examinations, treatments, and laboratory tests required by the protocol.
  • Adheres to legal, professional and ethical codes with respect to confidentiality and privacy.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing required.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years experience required.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Experience in oncology and radiation therapy required.
  • Knowledge of procedures and techniques necessary for performing research tasks.
  • Ability to learn and become proficient in data acquisition and clinical responsibilities related to research protocols.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • U.S. Citizenship required; ability to obtain and maintain a T3 Secret Clearance.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Must be a licensed Registered Nurse able to practice in Maryland.

Work Environment

  • This position will take place primarily in a hospital clinic setting.

Compensation

  • The annual salary range for this position is $77,600-$115,000. Actual salary will be determined based on experience, education, etc.
