Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit
The Counseling & Psychological Center is a unit within UNCG's Student Health Services. The UNCG Counseling & Psychological Center provides a wide range of counseling and psychological services to currently enrolled UNCG students virtually and in person, designed to support and challenge students' personal growth, academic success, and emotional health, as well as services and programs to promote positive mental health throughout the University community. The services may include: short-term individual counseling, group therapy, workshops, psychiatric services, and a variety of outreach programs designed to promote self-help and personal growth.
Position Summary
The Staff Psychologist provides group counseling and workshops to address students' mental and emotional health needs. The position also provides short-term individual counseling and psychotherapy related to personal and educational difficulties, social conflicts, significant adjustment problems, and mental and emotional disorders, including initial assessments and crisis intervention. The role diagnoses and treats mental and emotional disorders and engages in appropriate clinical collaboration, consultation, and documentation. In addition, the position develops and delivers clinical consultation and outreach programs that address students' developmental issues and mental health needs and provides training to graduate-level practicum and intern students.
Minimum Qualifications
An earned doctorate from an accredited program in Counseling Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Counselor Education, or Social Work.

  • Licensed, or license eligible by the State of North Carolina, to practice clinical services within the area of competency. Continued employment is contingent on acquiring a North Carolina License within 12 months of employment.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in providing clinical mental health treatment to individuals from culturally diverse populations, as well as populations who have been/are underrepresented and/or underserved in mental health treatment.
  • Demonstrated understanding and clinical application of the intersectionality of identity and mental health.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with the DSM-5.
  • Ability to work effectively with young adults.
  • Experience working with a broad range of clinical presentations and diagnoses.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in delivering mental health interventions via individual and group/workshop modalities.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively with colleagues and team members.

Additional Required Certifications, Licensures, and Certificates
Licensed or license eligible in the state of North Carolina to practice clinical services within area of competence. Continued employment is contingent on acquiring North Carolina License within 12 months of employment.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to engage therapeutically in Spanish and English.
  • Experience working in a college counseling center.
