Hourigan has an opening for an Safety Specialist, Electrical Energy responsible for coordinating, implementing, and managing adherence to the project electrical safety plan. The Energization Safety Specialist has sole authority to authorize activities associated with working on energized or de-energized equipment. The role is to create and maintain a safe work environment for employees to perform this work.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support Hourigan's safety culture by setting an example of following all safe work practices and procedures.
  • Review Hourigan's electrical energization safety plan with the electrical contractor and commissioning authority.
  • Review Hourigan's Electrical Energization Safety Plan with all subcontractors and vendors who will be working on energized equipment or de-energized equipment. Provide a list of their responsibilities* for their participation and obtain written confirmation that they will comply with the plan requirements.
  • Confirm individuals working on energized or de-energized equipment are qualified workers for the work being performed and trained on electrical safety based on NFPA 70E, OSHA, or an accepted qualified electrical safety training standard.
  • Perform end-of-day inspections of electrical equipment with the electrical contractor's energy marshal to confirm all systems are secure
  • Confirm adequate warning signage and barriers are installed at electrical rooms and spaces with energized equipment.
  • Conduct daily meetings to review Pre-Task Safety Analysis (PTSA) and LOTO with project stakeholders
  • Assist with the development of site-specific safety procedures.
  • Confirm an adequate access control plan is in place for electrical rooms and spaces with energized equipment.
  • Serve as a resource for team members to problem-solve issues that arise on the jobsite.
  • Provide resources and support to ensure positive safety and health outcomes in line with the Hourigan SHMS.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • BS in Safety and Health or related degree, and/or equivalent experience, preferred
  • 1-3 years of experience in Safety and Environmental Health in a Commercial Construction environment is preferred, but not required
  • A strong desire to succeed and make a positive impact
  • OSHA 30, OSHA 510, or OSHA 500 certification required
  • First Aid/CPR/AED certifications required
  • Working knowledge of construction safety principles, techniques, and methods
  • Strong understanding of OSHA laws, regulations, and policies
  • Capable of identifying known potential exposures and recommending corrective action
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Work, Power Point, Project, etc.)
  • Tolerance for ambiguity and change in a high-speed environment.
  • Applies a customer-centric mindset to all work efforts
  • Approaches challenges with empathy, multiple solutions, and collaboration
  • Ability to climb stairs, ladders, walk on uneven surfaces, and endure temperature extremes as they occur.
  • Highly entrepreneurial and self-motivated with the ability to work equally well individually or in a team setting.
