Mayville Engineering Company (MEC) is seeking a
Lean Engineer to join our
MBX Mayville Business Excellence) Team, supporting our Raleigh manufacturing site. This hands-on role focuses on leading Kaizen events, deploying and coaching Lean methods, and delivering measurable cost improvements.
Reporting to the Director of Lean & CI, the Lean Engineer will be responsible for executing Lean initiatives that drive operational excellence, eliminate waste, and improve key performance indicators-especially in Safety, Quality, Delivery, Inventory, and Cost.
Responsibilities
Kaizen Leadership: Plan and lead Kaizen events across sites, including President's Kaizens, with an emphasis on driving cost savings, productivity gains, and process optimization.
- Cost Improvement Focus: Identify, implement, and track cost reduction opportunities through Lean tools and structured problem solving. Own the validation and reporting of financial impact to leadership.
- 6S Leadership: Deploy and sustain 6S (5S + Safety) practices across all work areas; conduct audits and coach teams on continuous workplace organization and efficiency.
- Strategy Deployment: Support and align with MEC's strategic goals using Hoshin Kanri, Value Stream Mapping (VSM), and Lean roadmaps to guide improvement efforts.
- Lean Capability Development: Coach and mentor associates, leads, and supervisors on Lean methodologies including PDCA, root cause analysis, Gemba, and visual management.
- Standardization & Best Practices: Develop and roll out standardized work and visual control systems across departments to drive consistency and sustainability.
- Performance Monitoring: Track and analyze KPI performance and Lean project milestones. Report results and support root cause countermeasures where gaps are identified.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with operations, engineering, quality, and leadership to remove roadblocks, ensure alignment, and reinforce Lean culture.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field
- 2-5 years of experience in a Lean or process improvement role within manufacturing (metal fabrication a plus)
- Demonstrated ability to identify and deliver cost savings through Lean initiatives
- Hands-on experience leading Kaizen events and 5S (6S) implementations
- Strong understanding of Lean principles and tools: VSM, Standard Work, 5S/6S, PDCA, A3 problem-solving
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills; able to influence across all levels

Proficient with Microsoft Office; experience with Power BI, Visio, or AutoCAD is a plus -
Ability to travel up to 50% if needed to support other MEC plants and initiatives
