Covia is looking for a dynamic Production Supervisor who will have a positive impact on the Operations team at its Pevely, Missouri location. As a Production Supervisor, you will report to the Plant Manager and will directly lead and manage the mine, production, and shipping operations to ensure that output is maximized at the lowest cost while maintaining safety and quality requirements.

The successful candidate will have the following Key Accountabilities:



  • Provide strong leadership in all of the Covia safety program initiatives.
  • Assure that all safety and health, and environmental matters adhere to regulatory agency requirements and Covia policies.
  • Lead safety training in the form of group meetings or individual training.
  • Identify additional training needs for plant personnel and follow up on completion.
  • Maintain product quality standards and programs.
  • Promote "Good Housekeeping" and 5S workplace approaches plantwide.
  • Actively look for and promote opportunities to improve the operation.
  • Lead the workforce to meet production goals, while minimizing cost and maximizing efficiency and productivity.
  • Direct employees and contractors in mineral processing activities that include:


    • Overburden Stripping, Drilling and Blasting.
    • Open Pit Development and Mining Sequences.
    • Ore Extraction, Crushing, Washing, Pumping, Tailings Disposal, Drying, Screening, Loading, and Cooling Processes.
    • Product Shipment and Inventory Levels.
    • Bagging Operations
    • Maintenance of Plant Fixed Mining Mobile Equipment.


  • Coordinate and direct the activities of the hourly employees to achieve plant key performance indicators, short and long-range production requirements, and quality control parameters. This includes scheduling of all regular production and maintenance shifts, and overtime as necessary.
  • Coordinate and direct the maintenance functions to include establishing maintenance schedules that reduce non-scheduled down time and assure that maintenance records and equipment data information is accurate and up to date.
  • Maintain favorable and team spirited employee relations, provide positive and corrective feedback to hourly employees, administer employee handbook and Covia policy guidelines, and address employee discipline matters while working closely with the Plant Manager.
  • Provide the Plant Manager with periodic updates of any problems or potential problems that would affect the ability of the plant to produce in a safe, timely and efficient manner including, but personnel, equipment, transportation, quality and raw materials.
  • Utilize the ERP systems for purchase requisitions, maintenance work orders, and production records and reporting.
  • Assist in the development and construction of capital improvement projects and engineering changes to ensure that they fulfill plant needs and meet long-term maintenance requirements.
  • Coordinate work with outside service contractors and provide supervision and audits as necessary to ensure expected results.
  • Ensure that plant work standards, policies, procedures and plans are maintained at the highest levels.
  • Interact professionally with all Covia employees and customers while incorporating Covia's Core Values.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or as necessity dictates.



The successful candidate will have the following Minimum Qualifications:



  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's degree in Engineering preferred but not required.
  • Three (3) years of prior supervisory experience in a mining or heavy industrial environment is preferred.
  • A demonstrated ability to work as part of a team.
  • The ability to communicate effectively with others.
  • Desire to take a "hands-on" approach throughout the plant to direct the mineral processes and partake in troubleshooting and maintenance activities.
  • Capability to utilize MSWord, MS Excel, ERP, and other business software programs.
