Job Overview

The Electrical Engineering Intern - Shovel Automation,will be responsible for various support activities within the team, thatfocuseon developing, integrating, programming, and enhancing autonomous functionality for large-scale mining equipment. Responsibilities will include researching technologies, setting up test fixtures with both hardware and software, and assisting the team in introducing new products.


This role is onsite at our South Harbor location in Milwaukee's Harbor District. The start date is Summer 2026, with potential extension into Fall 2026. Full-time hours are available in summer, and flexible part-time hours during the academic year.

Key Job Responsibilities


  • Assist engineers with the development and testing of shovel automation and autonomous systems.



  • Support the setup and use of test fixtures involving electrical hardware, sensors, and software tools.



  • Help with basic programming, scripting, or data analysis tasks using tools such as LabVIEW, C++, MATLAB, or Python.



  • Read and apply electrical wiring diagrams while learning troubleshooting techniques for prototype systems.



  • Follow guidance from lead engineers to complete prototype development, validation, and documentation tasks.



  • Participate in demonstrations of system functionality and technology readiness for internal stakeholders.



Qualifications/Requirements


  • Pursuing a bachelor's or advanced degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Software, Mechatronics, Robotics Engineering, or a related field from an accredited college or university.



  • Sophomore, Junior, Senior, or Master's-level student in good academic standing.



  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team, with guidance from engineers.



  • Demonstrated organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks in a learning environment.



  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.



  • Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills, with the ability to be creative and resourceful when needed.



  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).



Preferred Qualifications


  • Participation in high school FIRST Robotics or similar hands-on engineering programs.



  • Participation in college robotics teams, engineering projects, or technical competitions.



  • Exposure to coursework or projects involving automation, controls, robotics, or embedded systems.



  • Interest in pursuing a career in on-road or off-road autonomous machines or vehicles.
