Hydrogeologist BB&E, Inc. (BB&E) is a full service civil and environmental engineering and consulting firm, headquartered in Northville, Michigan, which services both the Federal and Industrial sectors throughout the United States. BB&E team members provide Environmental Consulting, Facilities Engineering and Program/Project Management Services to Federal and private sectors. Position SummaryBB&E is seeking a Hydrogeologist to support federal environmental remediation projects and programs located at the NASA Ames Research Center in Mountain View, CA. Job Duties & Responsibilities* Perform field activities that include: o Collection of soil vapor, soil, sediment, surface water, and groundwater samples; o Oversee the installation of soil borings, groundwater monitoring wells, and abandonment of groundwater monitoring wells utilizing various drilling techniques (direct push technology, rotosonic, etc.) by subcontractors; and o Execute work as outlined in work planning documents. * Review, interpret, and report finding of analytical laboratory, geologic, and hydrogeological data. * Perform assigned work in accordance with project schedules, procedures and/or practices, and budget. * Strong communication skills; oral, presentation, and written. * Support the following: o Preparation of work scopes, plans, and instructions for project teams and subcontractors; o Planning, executing, and managing remediation and restoration activities; and Review and management of project data for reporting Requirements Key Qualifications* Ability to successfully pass a federal agency background check is required * Knowledge: o Familiarity with RCRA and CERCLA o Closed landfill experience; post-closure care, operations, maintenance, monitoring, and reporting. o Experience collecting soil vapor, soil, surface water and groundwater samples in accordance with standard USEPA field methods. o Installation of groundwater wells in a variety of hydrogeologic settings, supporting aquifer and remedial tests, and familiar with remedial technologies including removal actions, air sparging, soil vapor extraction, and in-situ chemical injection. o Technical writing of plans, reports, and technical memorandums. o Experience in providing project and subcontractor oversight. * Strong Communication Skills: Excellent verbal, presentation, and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex technical concepts to diverse audiences. * Software: Proficiency using MS Office software suite including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint and Adobe is required. * Self-Starter: Highly motivated, with the ability to problem-solve and work collaboratively in a team. Experience & Education* Experience: 10 years' related experience as environmental professional is required. Must have experience performing aquifer and remedial tests. * Certification and Training: 40-hour HAZWOPER certification is required;OSHA Supervisor Training is preferred; OSHA Construction and General Industry 30-Hour Training is preferred * Education: A Bachelor's degree or higher in science or applicable Engineering (Geology, Hydrogeology, Hydrology, Geological Engineering) or other related areas is required; professional license (PG and/or PE) and advanced science or engineering degree preferred. Physical Requirements* Must be able to walk, sit, and/or stand for extended periods for multiple days/weeks. * Capable of light lifting, up to 50 lbs. * Working conditions: o Able to work both indoor/outdoor (with exposure to the elements). o Able to walk/climb/knee/crouch and reach. o Able to work on rough terrain when necessary. o Able to work in confined spaces and/or heights. o Able to wear the required PPE, minimally use gloves, a hard hat, a respirator, and steel-toe boots that may be in combination with protective clothing/suits, a respirator, and/or a fall restraint/recovery harness.
