The Director of Inpatient and Emergency Nursing Services at El Camino Hospital Los Gatos is a key leadership role that manages and improves nursing services in intensive care, emergency, medical/surgical/orthopedic, and inpatient rehabilitation areas. This director role is designed to assist the organization in attaining strategic and operational goals, while fostering leadership development and supporting the nursing staff to provide the highest quality care . The position will help guide operational improvements, enhance patient care delivery, and ensure effective workforce management. The Director of Inpatient and Emergency Nursing Services is responsible for managing the financial, service, and quality goals of the nursing services in the designated areas. The director ensures alignment with the strategic goals of the enterprise while focusing on staff development, operational efficiency, and continuous improvement in patient care. The director collaborates with nursing leadership to drive the achievement of annual goals and supports the effective management of budgets, quality/safety patient outcomes, staff engagement, recruitment, and retention strategies. The director works collaborates with all clinical leaders across the enterprise and most closely with leaders at LG. The director will collaborate closely to align leadership and nursing strategies with organizational goals. Key Responsibilities:
Collaborate with the ACNO to establish annual goals for nursing services in the inpatient and emergency services, ensuring alignment with the hospital's strategic plan and long-term objectives. Identify new opportunities to enhance patient care and operational efficiency. Oversee the management of capital and operating budgets for areas under responsibility, working with nursing leaders to ensure financial targets are met. Monitor key performance indicators and address areas for improvement to enhance service delivery and quality. Support the development and mentorship of nursing leaders within critical care, emergency, and inpatient nursing teams. Ensure the growth of nursing leaders through education, leadership training, and career development opportunities. Collaborate with the ACNO in the development and execution of recruitment and retention strategies. Ensure that staffing requirements are effectively managed to meet the needs of patient care while maintaining optimal nurse-patient ratios. Foster a supportive and collaborative work environment that prioritizes nurse engagement and job satisfaction. Work closely with physicians, nursing leaders, and other healthcare professionals to ensure the delivery of optimal patient care. Support collaborative initiatives that improve patient outcomes, safety, and satisfaction. Advocate for best practices and evidence-based care across nursing departments. Drive continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to enhance nursing practices and workflows. Lead efforts to implement new technologies or approaches to improve patient care delivery and efficiency. Promote a culture of safety and quality by monitoring and supporting initiatives aimed at improving clinical outcomes. Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and hospital policies related to patient care and nursing practice.
Qualifications
Master's degree required. Master's degree in nursing or a related field preferred. If the Master's degree is in another field, a BSN is required. Minimum of five years of management experience in nursing, with a focus on acute care inpatient units. Experience managing emergency department services is preferred. Strong clinical background in inpatient nursing, with a comprehensive understanding of acute care services, including critical care, emergency, and medical/surgical areas. Demonstrated experience in leading teams, developing nursing leaders, and managing large, diverse teams in a dynamic healthcare environment. Proven ability to manage budgets, implement strategic initiatives, and improve operational performance. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse groups, including nursing staff, physicians, and hospital leadership. Strong knowledge of quality improvement methodologies, patient safety standards, and healthcare regulations. Experience in driving quality initiatives that enhance patient care and safety.
