    POSITION PURPOSE:

    The Security Systems Specialist is responsible for collaborating with the Security Manager for performance of security scope necessary for the operations of the Infrastructure Support Services contract. This supports the implementation and management of the physical security technologies, including physical access control system, intrusion detection system, surveillance cameras, network video recorders, and related components and integrations.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


    • Responsible for the design, maintenance, and troubleshooting of the physical access control, intrusion detection, and video surveillance systems while keeping them aligned with DOE requirements and site security plans.
    • Responsible for ensuring badging operations integrate seamlessly and efficiently into the physical access control system.
    • Serve as the primary contact for daily operations involving physical security electronic infrastructure.
    • Provides initial/immediate response to security systems component problems/failures.
    • Ensures video surveillance systems and intrusion detection system components are functioning as expected at all times and immediately coordinating repair when needed.
    • Lead critical troubleshooting efforts and provide direction for issues in conjunction with electronic mechanics, subcontracts/vendors and infrastructure environments to ensure installation, configuration, and maintenance of all assigned core infrastructure, are secure, reliable, and meet the needs of the organization.
    • Provides direct support for all assigned projects, programs, subcontracts, and other activities.
    • Perform a range of server, network, and software administration duties including installations, debugging, maintenance, upgrades, and general support of physical security systems and applications to ensure continuous operational of systems.
    • Oversee the installation, configuration, and maintenance of all assigned core infrastructure, ensuring they are secure, reliable, and meet the needs of the organization.
    • Supports implementation and repairs to physical access control systems.
    • Analyze, diagnose and resolve complex technical and operational issues associated with operating system servers, hardware, applications, and software.
    • Monitor systems performance and ensure compliance with security, IT, and cyber standards.
    • Troubleshoot and evaluate IT infrastructure and connectivity across the physical security system to ensure reliability of the security systems.
    • Maintain highly available operating environment for entire security system, and provide 24/7 support as required to maintain appropriate level of operations.
    • Ensure that issues are investigated and resolved with due regard to risk, and necessary changes/repairs are performed and documented.
    • Responsible for ensuring cyber policies and best practices are met.
    • Coordinate with the rest of the security team to meet the team objectives. Support other areas within the physical security program and support the performance assurance program as needed.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
    Education and Experience


    • Bachelor's degree with emphasis on Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or similar degree preferred; or a combination of education, experience, training, and certifications that support the qualifications and suitability of the position.
    • Five (5) or more years of experience in Security and/or IT Operations, with physical access controls and video surveillance systems preferred.
    • Experience with operating systems, databases, application software, architecting solutions, and implementing and supporting software relating to access controls and surveillance systems is desired.
    • Working knowledge of and application of DOE Safeguards and Security Orders, Policies, and associated programs, preferred.

    Other Skills/Abilities


    • Strong knowledge of access control and video surveillance technologies including experience implementing and maintaining such systems.
    • Preferred knowledge or certification in VelocityTM Software.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
    • Understanding of risk mitigation and best practices of implementing IT infrastructure.
    • Experience with designing, deploying and supporting infrastructure and applications for access control and video surveillance systems.
    • Ability to optimize computer hardware/software delivery and provide actionable metrics.
    • Ability to manage and track end user requests and provide timely responses to requests.
    • Flexibility to adapt to changing situations
    • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate to all levels of talent
    • Solid problem-solving skills
    • Ability to support 24 hour/365 day operations.

    Special Requirements:


    • Must be a U.S. citizen.
    • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE "Q" clearance.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:


    • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, and drive.
    • The employee may regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
    • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Manual dexterity abilities required for implementation and maintenance of physical access controls systems and equipment.

    WORKING ENVIRONMENT:


    • Works in typical office environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
    • May occasionally work in other environments, including outside, where noise levels and weather conditions may vary.
    • Overtime/alternate work schedule required when needed for projects or events/incidents, etc.
