Responsibilities

We are currently seeking an experienced first-line risk manager to join our first line of defense Business Risk Office supporting Community Banking, Commercial Banking and Shared Services (CCSS). Reporting into the CCSS Business Risk Director, the ideal candidate for the Business Risk Manager, Sr role will have significant experience in Treasury Management, Payments, Commercial or Consumer Lending, Fulfillment, Operations and/or Servicing, as well as first, second or third line of defense risk management, and process and control evaluation, design, and implementation experience at large financial institutions.

The selected candidate will have the opportunity to build risk and control activities in the first line of defense and will lead a team of Business Risk Officers. This newly created role will be pivotal in implementing risk frameworks, will serve as the first line of defense governance and control partner to executive leadership, and requires strong collaboration and influencing skills. As a player/coach, the Business Risk Manager will directly support a designated business segment while simultaneously guiding and developing a team. The role involves hands-on contribution to the design and implementation of action plans, control enhancements, and process design, coupled with leadership responsibilities that build capability across the team. This is a managerial role with a current team of four individuals.

Managerial Responsibilities will include:
* Leadership & Team Development:
o Provide coaching, mentoring, and career development for team members to build risk management expertise and leadership capabilities.
o Foster an inclusive, high-performing team culture that emphasizes accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
* Strategic Planning & Execution:
o Translate organizational risk objectives into actionable team goals and ensure alignment with broader business strategies.
o Prioritize and allocate resources effectively to meet deadlines and deliverables.
o Stay informed about risk management and first line of defense trends and, adapt strategies to maintain competitive advantage
* Performance Management:
o Set clear performance expectations, conduct regular feedback sessions, and complete annual performance evaluations.
o Identify skill gaps and implement targeted training plans for team development.
* Stakeholder Engagement:
o Act as a primary liaison between the Business Risk Office and senior leadership, ensuring timely communication of risk issues, emerging trends, and mitigation strategies.
o Represent the team in governance forums and risk committees, providing insights and recommendations.
o Serve as subject matter expert on and/or lead various Segment committees and provide advisory guidance to Segment Business Leadership team.

o Lead regulatory and compliance examinations and internal audits, including coordination of tasks and deliverables amongst risk and business line team members. Facilitate other internal reviews, including SOX certification.

o Work closely with other departments (such as Risk, IT, Sales, and Customer Service) to align risk management strategies with effective delivery models. Resolve conflicts quickly through proactive communication and influential leadership.
* Operational Oversight:
o Monitor workload distribution and ensure efficient execution of risk assessments, control testing, and remediation activities.
o Drive process optimization and automation initiatives to enhance risk management efficiency.
* First Line Process, Risk and Controls Leadership:
o Provide implementation and execution of first line risk management programs, including Regulatory Affairs, Third Party Risk Management, Operational Risk Management (RCSA), Business Resiliency, Corporate Governance, Model Risk Management, and Risk Appetite. Facilitate updates to applicable policies, procedures and training, and communicate changes to impacted team members. Proactively identify risk exposures and control gaps.
o Lead the processes for identification and assessment of risks and controls for the Segment, including for new business and/or product initiatives

Qualifications and Education Requirements
* Bachelor's or Master's degree in Business Management, Operations Management, Finance or a related field.
* Minimum of 15 years' experience in Banking or Financial Services risk management, audit, compliance, or operations
* Minimum of 10 years' experience in people management
* Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to work across cultural and geographic boundaries, adapting strategies to suit diverse markets.
* Strategic and analytical thinker with a problem-solving mindset.
* Strong organizational and project management skills.
* Innovative, forward-thinking, and adaptable to change.
* Skilled negotiator and relationship manager.
* Comfortable in a fast-paced, evolving environment.

This position may be filled at a different level depending on the candidate's qualifications and relevant experience. Factors may include but are not limited to: previous experience, depth and breath of previous or current institution size- the same role for many years or a variety of roles in the same space over a number of years, skills, knowledge, previous performance and success factors, education/certification.
