Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for an IT Operations Intern at UL Research Institutes and UL Standards & Engagement, based in our Evanston, Illinois, office. As an intern, you will gain hands-on experience and contribute to the operational success of our IT systems and infrastructure. This role is based in our headquarters in Evanston office and is a great opportunity for someone interested in pursuing a career in IT operations.

What you'll learn and achieve:

As the IT Operations Intern, you will play a key role in the rapid growth of UL as you:

  • Assist the IT operations team in monitoring and maintaining the company's network, servers, and other infrastructure components.

  • Work with the IT operations team during day-to-day end user support.

  • Help troubleshoot and resolve technical issues reported by end-users, escalating complex problems to senior team members when necessary.

  • Perform routine maintenance tasks, such as software updates, hardware upgrades, and system backups.

  • Participate in the creation and maintenance of documentation, including system configurations, user guides, and standard operating procedures.

  • Assist in managing user accounts, permissions, and access levels for various IT systems and applications.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify areas for process improvement and propose innovative solutions to enhance operational efficiency.

  • Willingness to stay up to date with emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices in IT operations.

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field.

  • Basic knowledge of networking principles, computer hardware, and operating systems (Windows, macOS, Linux).

  • Familiarity and willingness to learn more about IT service management concepts, such as incident management, problem management, and change management.

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to quickly learn new tools and technologies.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with team members and end-users.

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.

  • Availability to work full-time during the internship period.
