To build on our ongoing success in the Pacific Northwest and position the region for continued growth, we are hiring an Area Development Manager who will play a pivotal leadership role in strengthening our market presence. This role is responsible for driving strategic client engagement, developing a robust pipeline of opportunities, and securing new work across the region.

The Area Development Manager ensures strong market positioning, effective account leadership, and high-performing seller/doer teams. A key accountability is supporting the Western US business strategy by guiding account and sector leaders, while cultivating senior-level client relationships that convert opportunity into revenue and long-term partnerships.

Key Responsibilities:




  • Analyze market trends, competitive landscape, and client needs to guide strategic decisions and business actions.
  • Identify, prioritize, and engage key and emerging clients across the Pacific Northwest, particularly in rail, transit, urban mobility, transportation, water, and tunnel infrastructure.
  • Maintain and grow senior-level client relationships to secure a healthy pipeline of revenue opportunities.
  • Enhance the firm's industry presence through networking, conferences, and media visibility.
  • Develop and implement strategic client engagement and ambition plans for priority accounts.
  • Lead and support proposal and interview preparation for key pursuits, ensuring strategic, tailored responses aligned with client goals and Mott MacDonald's value proposition.
  • Build local capabilities to convert pursuits into won work.
  • Oversee account and opportunity management using CRM systems, ensuring accurate pipeline and resource planning.
  • Meet all sales targets and KPIs for the area.
  • Support the Western US Development Manager in creating and executing strategic plans and annual business objectives.
  • Coordinate closely with the Divisional GM to deliver business plans and sector strategies.
  • Contribute to budgeting for business development and proposal activities.
  • Champion the seller/doer and account leader model, coaching and developing teams to achieve high performance.
  • Serve as a Principal Account Leader or Account Leader where applicable.
  • Foster collaboration across business units, acting as a role model for Mott MacDonald's brand, values, and vision.
  • Drive continuous improvement by identifying operational gaps and implementing effective solutions.



Qualifications & Experience:




  • Minimum 15 years of experience in the A/E/C industry with proven success in client development, account management, and winning infrastructure work.
  • Strong track record working with public sector agencies as well as private organizations, municipalities, and state agencies.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, business, marketing, science, or related field.
  • Deep understanding of market dynamics in transportation, water, and infrastructure sectors.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop trusted client relationships and translate them into revenue growth.
  • Strong skills in strategic planning, teaming, proposal strategy, and negotiations.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills with the ability to influence at all levels.
  • Experience using CRM tools and supporting data-driven business development.
  • A collaborative, positive leader who motivates teams, identifies improvement opportunities, and delivers long-term vision.

Individual pay is determined based on several factors such as work location, education, experience, and unique skills.

The expected salary for this position is $185,000 - $225,000
