Overview

Engineers in the Ship Signatures Department are responsible for ensuring that the ship's components, systems and structures are designed and built to meet a submarine's challenging radiated noise requirements.

Acoustic Test Programs

The acoustic test programs group is responsible for the acoustic test and optimization of acoustic system performance on new construction as well as commissioned submarines. Work includes test procedure development, setup and performance of acoustic testing of ship systems and components at various stages of construction, setup and performance of acoustic testing of fully constructed ships at sea, data evaluation, diagnostic investigation and reporting, and adjudication of construction deficiencies.



Qualifications

Required:

    Bachelor's of Science degree or higher by September 2026 in mechanical, aerospace, acoustical engineering, or physics
  • 0-5 years of postgraduate engineering experience
  • An active SECRET clearance, or ability to obtain a SECRET clearance

Preferred:

  • Master's degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, acoustical engineering, or physics
  • Course work or experience in mechanical vibrations, acoustics, signal processing, data acquisition, test procedure/technical report writing, or validation testing,
  • Proficiency with MATLAB software


Skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Developing productive relationships with internal and external customers, which may include collaborating engineering organizations, construction staff, government contractors and the Navy customer is key.
  • Ability to work in a team as well as independently, adaptability, and general proficiency with computers (Windows, Microsoft office products, etc...),
  • Time/task management.
