About Us:

CEMS, a multi-discipline Architecture and Engineering firm that serves Federal, Municipal, and Private clients in the Carolinas and throughout the East Coast, seeks to continue our sustained growth in our Summerville, SC office.


Position:

CEMS Engineering, Inc. is looking to hire a Mechanical Designer with MEP experience. The designer should have experience in the design and layout of building mechanical systems and controls. The individual will be responsible for serving as the designer on a wide variety of complex mechanical systems for facility projects. Candidates should have a sound technical foundation and have strong communication skills. The designer should have the ability to work independently and take initiative.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong background supporting engineering teams in mechanical, electrical, and systems integration environments for various design and development projects. Ability to produce a wide range of engineering documentation, including mechanical drawings, diagrams, schematics, and technical data packages is required. This role involves effective collaboration with engineers, architects, and project team members to refine designs, solve integration challenges, and ensure constructability.

Job Location:

This position is an on-site position at our Summerville, SC office, which is 20 minutes from downtown Charleston.

Minimum Qualifications:


  • Possess Drafting, Design, and/or CAD experience in engineering design.
  • Prior experience working as a mechanical MEP designer on building or facilities projects
  • Strong oral and communication skills
  • Possess a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
  • Experience with technical writing of various documents such as reports, specifications, manuals
  • Ability to pass a background check and access DOD facilities.
  • Prior experience working with government entities, i.e. DOD, State, Local Municipalities.
  • Possess practical understanding of how designs translate into real-world applications.


Desired qualifications:

  • Ability to translate real-world applications into efficient assemblies and drawings for installation, testing, and maintenance.


  • Associates Degree in Engineering or related field preferred or combination of equivalent education and experience.
  • Certified BIM/CAD professional preferred.


  • DoD Experience is considered a plus.
  • Experience in Revit MEP is also a plus.


Experience:

  • Minimum 5+ years Drafting, Design, and/or CAD experience in engineering design.

Environment:

Mechanical Designer will work primarily in an office environment. Periodic travel to project sites will be required. Work on project sites will involve exposure to extreme temperatures, climbing ladders, confined spaces, and unfavorable elements found in new construction sites. Use of safety equipment such as hard hats, safety shoes, safety glasses, and respiratory protection will be required.

Physical:

Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting and field environment; to walk, stand, and sit for prolonged periods of time; also to verbally communicate to exchange information.

Vision and Hearing:

Seeing and hearing in the normal visual and audial range with or without correction.
