What to Expect

We are seeking an engineer to be a handshake between Cell Formation Development and Deployment for quick adoption of testing protocols and limits into Production. This role focuses on identifying and applying a Formation strategy that delivers maximum cell quality and performance at minimum factory cost and cycle time. You will translate outcomes of structured development trials, evaluate tradeoffs between formation duration and comprehensive cell COGS (yield & warranty) and deploy the best solution based on moving constraints of capacity and volume ramp. You will play a key role in making the most optimal choices to launch a new cell variant to production - reducing formation cost and time while ensuring world-class quality and performance.

What You'll Do
  • Analyze Formation yield daily to identify if deviations are driven by measurement or calculation errors or from a true quality shift in an upstream material / equipment and take appropriate actions to address
  • Analyze key Formation metrics for new cell variants to ensure there is no quality risk from a new upstream material supply source / process / equipment change and lead change data driven change approvals
  • Develop a strong understanding of Formation factory process flows to identify and address any anomalies
  • Develop strong Cell Formation fundamentals to be able to confidently explain metric shifts and their impact on Cell Quality
  • Build an understanding of key battery pack analytics to be able to challenge limits and optimize for Cell Yield and Quality
  • Translate experimental learnings from Formation Dev teams into actionable formation recipes and process specifications
  • Build a strong partnership with Cell Quality, Reliability, Materials, Formation Dev and Battery teams to ensure you make the best decisions for Tesla, balancing yield and quality with changing constraints of volume impact
  • Build strong statistics, data analysis and automation techniques to enable you to continuously expand your impact and influence.

What You'll Bring
  • Experience working with cell formation, electrochemistry, or cell performance testing
  • Strong data analysis and ability to interpret time-series and performance data
  • Ability to design experiments, manage test execution, andconsolidateresults into clear recommendations
  • Track record showing you have been successful at translation complex concepts into actionable items driving measurable impact
  • Familiarity with Pythonorsimilar tools for data analysis
  • Batteryphysics and/or empiricalmodeling or simulation experience
