The Director of DevOps will guide our adoption of infrastructure-as-code pipelines and expand our EKS-based microservice platform across the Empower enterprise. You will enable autonomous, cross-functional teams to be more productive, strengthen security with automated controls, and continuously improve the scalability and observability of our systems. This role combines hands-on technical leadership with building and leading high-performing engineering teams in support of an organization committed to diversity and inclusion, community, and long-term success.

What you will do:

  • Build, grow, and manage high-performing engineering teams, and participate in roadmaps, vision, and strategic planning.
  • Partner with developers, quality engineers, security engineers, data engineers, DBAs, and product managers to deliver Infrastructure, Security, and Operation as Code.
  • Lead adoption and expansion of CI/CD and IaC pipelines to support secure, scalable application delivery.
  • Define and instrument end to end observability monitors, alerts and practices.
  • Develop recovery and incident run books.
  • Define, validate and instrument SLO and SLI across platform services.
  • Provide engineering leadership and best practices including code reviews and platform and SDLC practices
  • Foster strong working relationships across Engineering and the broader business.
  • Communicate effectively with strong verbal and written skills, keeping leadership informed and helping create organizational goals.
  • Remove technical obstacles, enhance team processes, and drive resolutions for complex issues.
  • Mentor, coach, and support individuals through 1:1s and career development.

What you will bring

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent STEM, from an accredited college or university.
  • 10+ years of AWS experience, including designing, building, and operating large-scale applications.
  • 6+ years of experience managing a DevOps/SRE or Engineering organization, with a passion for mentoring and leading engineers.
  • Expertise building fully automated infrastructure, preferably using AWS, EKS, GitLab, and Terraform.
  • Experience setting up observability tools (SRE) and driving adoption with development teams.
  • Software engineering background.
  • Experience working with, operating, and deploying CI/CD and IaC pipelines.
  • Expertise with Istio and AWS IAM.
  • Experience supporting data platforms and tools such as Spark, EMR, and SageMaker.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and effectively across organizations and all levels of leadership.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • AWS certifications.

Base Salary Range

$138,000.00 - $200,100.00

The salary range above shows the typical minimum to maximum base salary range for this position in the location listed. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation offered may vary from posted hiring range based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.
