Position Summary
The Medical Assistant (Certified/Credentialed) is responsible for assisting in the daily activities of the UICOMP women's health clinic operation, performing a variety of clinical and clerical functions in a medical setting. Responsibilities include patient check-in, insurance verification, prior authorizations, assists with rooming patients, measuring vital signs and documenting appropriately in the electronic health record. Assisting with scheduling follow-up appointments and any necessary diagnostic testing or procedures.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Answering inbound calls to clinic and ensure timely communication. Coordinate patient appointments with scheduling efficiency. Greet and assist patients during check-in, verifying insurance information and updating demographic details as needed. Support front office operations, including processing referrals, obtaining pre-authorizations, and managing related documentation. Maintain accurate and complete patient records within the electronic health record (EHR) system, following provider instructions and clinic protocols. Generate and compile statistical and operational reports, including patient volumes, provider caseloads, and service utilization data. Collaborate with the care team to ensure a positive patient experience and smooth clinic workflow.
  • Provide compassionate and efficient clinical support under the direction of the physician and nurse within the clinic. Escort patients to exam rooms, ensuring comfort and privacy throughout the visit. Obtain and accurately record vital signs including blood pressure, temperature, height, weight, pulse, and respirations. Review and update patient medications, allergies, and reason for visit in the electronic health record (EHR). Alert the provider to any abnormal findings or concerns identified during patient intake. Prepare exam and procedure rooms, maintaining cleanliness, restocking supplies, and properly handling soiled linens according to clinic protocols. Assist with inventory management by receiving, organizing, and tracking medical and office supplies to ensure efficient clinic operations.
  • Accurately enter provider orders into the electronic health record (EHR) in accordance with institutional policies, including orders for medications, laboratory tests, and diagnostic imaging. Coordinate communication between departments by dispatching messages and scheduling appointments for patients referred to other services or healthcare facilities, as directed by medical staff. Communicate with patients to schedule diagnostic testing or procedures ordered by the provider, and complete follow-up to confirm attendance and results when applicable.
  • Support overall clinic efficiency by assisting with data entry, record management, and other administrative tasks as needed.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.


  • Minimum Qualifications

    • High school graduation or equivalent
    • Possession of a current/valid medical assistant certification by an approved certifying board as defined by the employing institution


    Preferred Qualifications

    Phlebotomy training or certification preferred.
    Experience working with the Epic EMR preferred.
    Skill in performing venipuncture preferred.
    Skill in operating diagnostic equipment such as diabetes monitoring devices and urinalysis equipment preferred.
    Ability to maintain patient and family confidentially preferred
