POSITION SUMMARY
The Fleet Operations Supervisor will lead the Orange, TX fleet operations and optimize our company's vehicle fleet operations. The Fleet Operations Supervisor will be responsible for managing all aspects of fleet operations, including vehicle maintenance, safety compliance, driver management, and cost control. This position will have direct supervision of all delivery specialists and wastewater drivers. This role will also be the primary backup for the Fleet Manager as well as the Supply Chain Operations Lead, which supports our 3PL/4PL partner.
Key Characteristics:
Regulatory Compliance & Safety Management: Strong knowledge of environmental, health, and safety regulations, driver qualification standards (DOT/FMCSA), Hours of Service requirements, and ISO standards. Ability to ensure fleet operations maintain full compliance with federal regulations and company policies while prioritizing safety across multiple sites. Fleet Operations & Maintenance Oversight: Comprehensive understanding of fleet management including preventative maintenance scheduling, equipment inspections, repair coordination, and asset lifecycle management. Capable of minimizing downtime, controlling costs, and implementing process improvements through Lean/5S methodologies. People Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration: Proven ability to lead, train, and develop delivery specialists through recruitment, performance management, and conflict resolution. Strong interpersonal skills to coordinate effectively across multiple stakeholders including corporate schedulers, repair vendors, and multi-site teams to optimize route planning and share best practices.
Duties & Responsibilities
Manage and supervise a unionized workforce of Delivery Specialists in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement (CBA). Handle Payroll verification for all Delivery Specialists in accordance with company policy and timelines for completion Review and Approve all Delivery Specialists expense reports to ensure they comply with company policies before approving. Interpret and apply labor contract provisions related to work assignments, seniority rights, grievance procedures, disciplinary actions, and compensation. Collaborate with Human Resources and union stewards to resolve workplace disputes, negotiate local working conditions within contract parameters, and ensure management actions comply with National Labor Relations Act (NLRA) requirements. Participate in labor-management meetings, document contract violations, and prepare cases for arbitration when necessary. Maintain detailed records of progressive discipline, grievances filed/resolved, and contract interpretation precedents. Must demonstrate proven experience in union contract administration, grievance resolution, and maintaining productive labor-management relations while achieving operational objectives within the constraints of the collective bargaining agreement. Support all Environmental, Health, and Safety programs, policies, and regulations. Ensure Delivery Specialist Driver Qualifications (DQ) are in compliance with JJ Keller for both the Orange site and other North American sites Use PeopleNet to review and enforce Hours of Service (HOS) records for Delivery Specialists in both the Orange site and other North American sites Ensure efficient training of new hires and refresher training of Delivery Specialists Ensure the required customer credentials are maintained for each Delivery Specialist Coordinate/conduct interviews for open Delivery Specialist vacancies Responsible for time and attendance management, performance reviews and conflict resolution for employees within assigned department Maintain maintenance and inspection records for all tractors and trailers Coordinate the preventative maintenance and repair scheduling between the plant and repair shops Oversee new equipment additions to the fleet (trailers & tractors) Oversee/coordinate flow meter calibrations on fleet equipment per ISO standards Perform root cause analysis (RCA) for any abnormal situation Lead 5S/Lean initiatives related to the Orange Fleet with potential to roll out improvements to other North American sites Conduct monthly Delivery Specialist Meetings including EHS training requirements Interact with corporate Fleet schedulers to ensure safe and efficient route planning Interact with repair shops to reduce equipment downtime and fleet expenses Interact/participate in best practice sharing across other NAM plants Maintain and update transit time data in SAP system to ensure accuracy and compliance with operational standards Provide operational support for FAM reporting, expedite requests, and damage claims processing, including preparation and submission of claims documentation Generate and analyze carrier performance metrics, including quality incidents, primary tender acceptance rates, and claims percentages Conduct trend analysis and prepare data-driven insights to support carrier performance discussions and quarterly business reviews Serve as primary liaison with third-party logistics providers to coordinate daily operational activities and resolve issues as they arise This list is not all-inclusive and may include other duties as assigned and necessary for the operation and management of the site
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS
- 5-7 years of management experience supporting an operational function area in supply chain, whether in logistics, shop operations, distribution, etc.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree in logistics management from an accredited college or university Minimum of 5 years working with hazardous materials High standard of safety, environmental, and regulatory compliance Experience creating and analyzing KPIs Lean / Six Sigma process improvement methodologies, or equivalent quality training Understanding of basic fleet management principles/practices Demonstrated understanding of department of transportation rules/regulations Knowledge of applicable state and federal regulations while transporting hazardous materials Skilled in fostering fleet management supplier relationships Ability to analyze, evaluate, improve and document processes and procedures Ability to maintain focus in an environment subject to constant change and tight deadlines Proficient with MS Office applications and SAP Excellent communication and documentation skills Demonstrated analytical skills and ability to solve problems with creative ideas Negotiation and influence skills Organizational and prioritization skills
