Within Azure Data, the databases team builds andmaintainsMicrosoft's operational Database systems. We store and manage data in a structured way to enable multitude of applications across various industries. We are on a journey to enable developer friendly, mission-critical, AI enabled operational Databases across relational, non-relational and OSS offerings.

We are the Azure Databases Platform Securityteamand we are looking for a highly technical Senior Product Manager who can strategize, define and deliver security solutions for all of Microsoft's database services and products as they adapt to the new AI age. Our database services allow our customers to manage their data-intensive applications and AI workloads to run in a number of operating environments with a variety of security properties and constraints. Our customers expect these database services to be secure and compliant which requires constant innovation and diligence.

Responsibilities
  • Help make the world more secure, by strengthening Microsoft database platforms that are used by developers everywhere
  • Deliver 'security through usability', by ensuring an easy-to-adopt experience for developers and operators
  • Work with a friendly, diverse peer group who have a shared commitment to a culture of respect, integrity, and accountability, while distributed across timezones
  • Partner with, and learn from, experts in product teams across the company
  • Grow your career by creating clarity about customer needs, proposing changes to our products, and generating energy to deliver them successfully.
  • Excellent communication and influence: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. Able to articulate a vision and bring others along, including non-technical audiences. Effectively influences and negotiates with multiple teams and leadership levels; adept at driving collaboration without direct authority. Modeling and mentoring for more junior Product Managers in the team
  • Customer focus and research ability: Experience engaging with customers or end-users to gather requirements and feedback (e.g. user interviews, usability studies, beta programs). Empathy for customer needs and the ability to translate those into product improvements.
  • Track record of tackling ambiguous problems and incubating new ideas. Comfortable defining hypotheses, running experiments or prototypes, and using data and feedback to iterate on solutions.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 5+years experiencein product/service/program management or software development

    • OR equivalent experience.

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check:
  • This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 8+years experiencein product/service/program management or software development

    • OR equivalent experience.

  • 2+years experiencetaking a product, feature, or experience to market (e.g., design, addressing product market fit, and launch, internal tool/framework).

  • 4+years experienceimproving product metrics for a product, feature, or experience in a market (e.g., growing customer base, expanding customer usage, avoiding customer churn).

  • 4+years experiencedisrupting a market for a product, feature, or experience (e.g., competitive disruption, taking the place of an established competing product).

  • Deep security domain knowledge: Expertise in areas like database security, cryptography, threat modeling. Familiarity with industry security standards is a plus.

  • Demonstrated ability to drive large-scale technical initiatives from concept to delivery. Drive alignment amongst product management skills to coordinate engineering teams, partners, and stakeholders toward a common goal.

  • Deep understanding of security fundamentals, developer platforms, and networking/OS internals, security architectures, and networking.

Product Management IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $158,400 - $258,000 per year.
