Job Summary

Hands on Manager of incoming payments, handling of distribution to the patient accounts and intercompany transfer within Hospital, School of Medicine (SOM) and Community Physicians Group (CPG). Responsible for identifying issues and recommending solutions. The Payment Posting & Operation Services Manager will manage and oversee a team responsible for daily cash posting, a team responsible for providing timely resolution of patient account inquiries within the revenue cycle operations, and a team responsible for daily cash posting reconciliation to ensure accurate posting processes are followed. Additionally, the Manager will be responsible for motivating staff to achieve the highest levels of customer satisfaction and works to appropriately integrate and facilitate best practices, achieve efficiencies; align with the company's strategic plan while maintaining quality and customer service standards; and ensure the department is operating within rules, regulations applicable to the department and accordingly to UCDH Policies and Procedures.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • 5+ years of revenue cycle leadership experience
  • Extensive experience in health care receivables management is mandatory, preferably in a teaching hospital environment, dealing with government and commercial payers and contracts.
  • Several years of previous leadership experience working in a similar role/environment required.
  • Strong knowledge of billing, accounts receivable and / or collections systems, practices, policies, and regulations. Knowledge of revenue cycle management and billing systems.
  • Strong knowledge of medical and insurance terminology, medical billing, coding, health insurance coverage and reimbursement principles.
  • Strong managerial, skills in planning and delegating work, deploying staff, building staff competencies, resource management, budgeting, and financial management.
  • Strong ability to quickly evaluate complex problems, identify multiple potential solutions, and effectively implement action plans to bring about successful resolutions.
  • Analytical skills to review all available information, draw conclusions, develop reports, and evaluate alternatives, select solution, and monitor progress.
  • Ability to work effectively with leadership on establishing operational goals and providing for technological upgrades and systems.
  • Thorough knowledge of all relevant information technology, including systems, applications, hardware, processes and methodologies used in billing and / or collections functions. Including accounts payable system and general ledger.
  • Comprehensive, detailed knowledge of government/third-party payer program requirements, including cash handling guidelines.
  • Strong leadership skills to achieve organizational results in a manner that establishes a positive rapport and professional working relationships with all levels of the organization and external parties.
  • Experience and knowledge of Electronic Fund Transfers (EFT), and remittance file format (835 file).Working knowledge of Epic Modules, Cash Management, EMR, Resolute, ADT, Candence, Tapestry, and Clarity.
  • Skill to solve intricate, complex problems at various levels from individual patient accounts to the payer-level.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English. Demonstrated ability to convey clear/concise complex information to subordinates, senior management, and external parties.
  • Strong analytical skills to review contract terms to ensure UCDH can meet the requirements; review payer remittance 835 files, lockbox volumes in order to recommend processes and/or develop solutions to resolve.
  • Ability to reason logically, perceive potential/actual impact on others, and to perceive inter-dependencies between systems, operations, and procedures.
  • Ability to manage resources of personnel and systems in a complex, ever-changing environment.
  • Strong math skills to calculate complex cash reconciliations.
  • Ability to demonstrate professionalism, tact, courtesy, and diplomacy in dealing with personnel at all levels of the organization and with external parties.
  • Knowledge of healthcare trends and issues that impact patient accounts in a hospital setting for both professional and facility.
  • Knowledge and skill in working with committees and facilitating group decision-making and conflict resolution.
  • Ability to develop innovative and sound solutions to complex, unprecedented, and unusual problems.
  • Ability to work effectively in a complex environment with changing and conflicting priorities under tight deadlines and requirements for accuracy.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of UCD/UCDH policies and procedures and procedures, collective bargaining agreements for represented staff and how to utilize internal resources to answer questions/resolve issues.
  • Ability to act with flexibility and patience and maintain efficiency and accuracy under sustained and immediate pressure created by heavy workload, frequent interruptions, and multiple requests.
  • Sound skills in developing strategic plans, building staff competencies, organizing operations, and fiscal management.
