Medical Director - Women's Services

The Women's Health Service Line at MWMG includes practices and clinicians in Obstetrics-Gynecology, Gynecology-only, Maternal Fetal Medicine, Midwifery, and related subspecialties. Oversight spans ambulatory clinics, surgical services, and inpatient care across all locations. This role works in close partnership with hospital administration, department leadership, and key stakeholders to align goals and strategy. The Women's Health Service Line Medical Director will focus on driving operational efficiency, cost containment, and the delivery of high-quality, appropriate care. This role requires close collaboration with finance, revenue cycle, data management, and clinical leadership across primary care, surgical, and hospital services. The Director will also engage with partners in supply chain, property management, anesthesia, and nursing to optimize service delivery. In addition, the position will lead strategic growth initiatives for Women's Health services while balancing responsibilities between administrative leadership (25%) and clinical practice in OB/Gyn (75%).

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Champion Mary Washington Health System iCare values and High Reliability safety principles.
  • Partner with the Service Line Manager to integrate clinical and operational goals.
  • Engage providers in initiatives that enhance patient experience.
  • Supervise physicians and APPs, ensuring accountability for productivity, quality, and professional conduct.
  • Support recruitment, onboarding, and training of new providers.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and licensing requirements.
  • Collaborate on clinical quality goals, care protocols, and cost-effective best practices.
  • Provide OB/Gyn clinical services within the service line.
  • Oversee budget and financial performance; ensure accurate billing and coding.
  • Drive performance improvement and strategic initiatives aligned with organizational goals.
  • Promote educational programs, including APP fellowship and student/resident training.
  • Lead regular provider meetings to review operations, strategy, and provider concerns.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Completion of a medical degree (MD/DO) and residency and if applicable fellowship training in an appropriate specialty from an AMA-approved program or other institution approved by the Medical Staff and Board of MWHC.
  • Current, unrestricted, Virginia State license or eligible for Virginia licensure.
  • Certification by an American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) board in the physician's primary specialty.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in leadership or administrative positions in healthcare, with in-depth knowledge of the healthcare industry including finance, legislative policy, economics, service delivery, and trends in the insurance and consumer markets.
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills with an ability to engage constructively with a diverse set of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to recognize the complex needs of multiple customers and proactively recognize and address those needs.
  • At least 2 years of experience with an integrated electronic medical record.
  • Graduate education in health policy and management, business administration, or another similar program considered strongly preferred.
  • AHA BLS Provider CPR required

Environmental Requirements and Exposure Hazards: Potential risk of exposure to radiation and toxic chemicals. Potential for exposure to bloodborne pathogens; must be able to wear appropriate personal protective equipment.
