HJF is seeking a Senior Technical Editor. This position edits written content in competitive proposals for research funding. Provides expert proposal consulting and training to HJF customers, partners and internal departments.

This position will be in support of PRS- Vice President of External Affairs.

The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. We serve military, medical, academic and government clients by administering, managing and supporting preeminent scientific programs that benefit members of the armed forces and civilians alike. Since its founding in 1983, HJF has served as a vital link between the military medical community and its federal and private partners. HJF's support and administrative capabilities allow military medical researchers and clinicians to maintain their scientific focus and accomplish their research goals.


  • Provides writing, editing, rewriting, proofreading, and formatting services for a variety of communications products, including articles, feature stories, reports, marketing materials, scripts, and internal communications.
  • Develops non-technical, audience-appropriate content for USU and VPE digital platforms, including websites and newsletters, under the guidance of senior communications leadership and project stakeholders.
  • Organizes and structures content to improve clarity, readability, and message effectiveness across print and digital materials.
  • Recommends appropriate writing styles, tone, and voice consistent with the University's branding, editorial standards, and audience needs.
  • Coordinates with members of the communications team and other stakeholders to support assigned projects and meet established deadlines.
  • Assists the Senior Editor in the development, maintenance, and application of editorial templates and style standards.
  • Provides input and recommendations related to editorial workflows, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and process improvements.
  • Advises faculty, staff, and subject-matter experts on effective writing techniques, plain language principles, and editorial best practices.
  • Supports writing and editing training activities and contributes to the development of associated training materials, as requested.
  • Assists with the archiving, organization, and version control of completed communications products.
  • Prepares and reviews Section 508-compliant versions of materials for web and digital publication.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • Master's Degree in Journalism, English or Science Required.
  • Doctoral Degree in Journalism, English or Science preferred.
  • Minimum of 9-10 years experience required.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated excellence in professional writing and editing.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Experience producing content for institutional, academic, or government audiences.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Working knowledge of content management systems (e.g., Drupal).
  • Familiarity with Federal Plain Language guidelines.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a T1/Public Trust background clearance.

Work Environment

  • This position will take place primarily in an office setting.

Compensation

  • The annual salary for this position is $93,100-$114,065.54. Actual salary will be determined based on experience, education, etc.
