Job Description




As a Security Officer - Industrial Patrol Driver in Newport News, VA, you will serve and safeguard clients in a range of industries such as Manufacturing & Industrial, Government, and more. As an unarmed, driving patrol officer with Allied Universal, you will monitor and patrol manufacturing and government locations, conducting routine mobile rounds, remaining highly visible to help reduce security-related incidents, and responding to alarms and reported concerns. You will document activities, communicate clearly with site contacts and/or dispatch, and deliver helpful customer service while supporting a culture that is agile, reliable, innovative, people-first, team-driven, and grounded in integrity.

What You'll Do:

  • Provide customer service to clients, contractors, visitors, and employees by carrying out security-related procedures, site-specific policies, and when appropriate, emergency response activities.
  • Conduct regular and random patrols of buildings, grounds, lots, and perimeter areas to help to deter unauthorized activity and/or policy violations.
  • Monitor entrances and controlled access points, checking identification, authorizations, and visitor credentials per site procedures.
  • Maintain sign-in and sign-out processes for visitors, vendors, and deliveries, issuing temporary credentials as directed by site policy.
  • Observe and report suspicious behavior, hazardous conditions, and/or maintenance concerns to site leadership and Allied Universal management.
  • Respond to incidents and critical situations in a calm, problem-solving manner, including alarms, disturbances, and/or requests for assistance.
  • Complete detailed activity logs, shift reports, and incident reports with accurate times, locations, and actions taken.
  • Operate site communications equipment and/or security-related technology such as radios, phones, and camera systems when available.
  • Support order at vehicle and pedestrian areas by providing directions, managing queues, and/or coordinating with authorized personnel during peak activity.
  • Assist with perimeter checks, gate status verification, and closure checks at the start and end of shifts as required by site procedures.
  • Coordinate with site representatives and public agencies as needed during incidents, documenting notifications and instructions received.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of site operations and Allied Universal standards.

Minimum Requirements:

  • A minimum of 1+ years of security-related experience is required.
  • A valid driver's license is required in accordance with Allied Universal driver policy requirements.
  • Alarm panel experience is preferred.
  • Comfortable using computer or tablet is preferred.
  • Be at least 18 years of age for unarmed roles; 21+ years of age for armed roles.
  • Possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • As a condition of employment, applicants will be subject to a background investigation in accordance with all federal, state, and local laws.
  • Allied Universal will consider qualified applications with criminal histories in a manner consistent with applicable laws.
  • As a condition of employment, applicants will be subject to a drug screen to the extent permitted by law.
  • Licensing requirements are subject to state and/or local laws and regulations and may be required prior to employment.
  • A valid driver's license will be required for driving positions only.
