The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate's educational background, skills and professional experience.

Job Overview:

The Registered Dietitian utilizes the Nutrition Care Process and Evidence Based Guidelines in order to provide nutrition care to various patient populations. The Registered Dietitian completes nutrition assessments, develops nutrition diagnoses, recommends appropriate diet prescriptions and interventions, and calculates nutrient intake data, enteral tube feeding and parenteral nutrition formulas.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree with major studies in Food, Nutrition and/or Dietetics

Certifications and Licenses Required:

  • Credentialed as a Registered Dietitian by the Commission on Dietetic Registration or must pass Registration Examination within 90 days of the date of hire

Scheduling Requirements:

  • Cover one weekend per month (in patient nutrition) and to conduct cooking classes at the RWJ Fitness and Wellness Center and community nutrition education programs
  • Per Diem (PD)

Essential Functions:

  • Utilizes the Nutrition Care Process and Evidence Based Practice Guidelines, and applies knowledge of growth and development over the life span, when providing nutrition care
  • Completes nutrition assessments and care plans in accordance with department standards and policies and procedures
  • Monitors the effectiveness of nutrition care
  • Assesses patient progress, adequacy of nutrient intake and response to education
  • Completes re-assessments and revises care plans as indicated
  • Utilizes electronic patient information system and medical record in order to identify patients at nutrition risk and completes nutrition assessments and care plans
  • Documents nutrition assessments, nutrition diagnoses, interventions, care plans, education provided and monitoring of patient progress in a timely manner and in accordance with department policies and standards
  • Completes nutrition focused physical assessments and identifies patients who exhibit criteria for Protein Calorie Malnutrition
  • Develops nutrition diagnoses and recommends appropriate diet prescriptions and interventions
  • Ensures that patients receive the appropriate nutrition support
  • Correctly calculates nutrient intake studies, enteral tube feeding and parenteral nutrition formulas
  • Makes appropriate recommendations for nutrition prescriptions
  • Assesses the educational needs of patients and families, including cultural, ethnic and religious factors and barriers to learning
  • Develops an education plan, provides education, evaluates the outcome of the educational process and revises the education plan as needed
  • Exhibits the ability to solve problems and make decisions as needed in order maintain diet office operations and to provide guidance to the Menu Technicians and Food Service staff
  • Participates in the orientation of new staff members
  • Serves as a role model and preceptor for Dietetic Students
  • Provides and supervises required educational experiences and evaluates student performance
  • Exhibits positive customer service behaviors and communication skills when interacting with patients, families and staff
  • Serves as a patient advocate and responds to patient, family and staff concerns
  • Participates in educational programs, such as community lectures, health fairs, staff education and Nutrition Month activities
