The histology assistant assists pathologist or histology technologist or under the direction of a department Supervisor or designee performs according to standard operating procedures and delivers specimens to the appropriate department,

High School Diploma or Equivalent

Histology Certification or Experience Preferred

Histology Assistant Responsibilities & Duties

Prepare and label tissue samples for microscopic analysis

Assist in the embedding of tissue samples in paraffin wax

Operate and maintain laboratory equipment such as microtomes and automated staining machines

Perform routine and special staining techniques

Ensure proper disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous laboratory waste

Maintain accurate records of samples and test results

Monitor and order supplies to ensure laboratory efficiency

Adhere to safety protocols and laboratory regulations

Assist in the preparation of reagents and solutions

Clean and sanitize laboratory instruments and work areas

Qualifications & Skills

Prior experience in a clinical or research laboratory setting preferred,

Familiarity with histologic techniques and procedures

Certified Histotechnician (HT) credential preferred,

Basic understanding of medical terminology

Strong organizational and time-management skills

Attention to detail and manual dexterity

Ability to work independently and as part of a team

High school diploma or equivalent

Completion of a histologic technician training program or related coursework preferred,

Knowledge of basic laboratory safety and infection control procedures

Proficiency with laboratory equipment and software

Good communication skills for interacting with laboratory staff

Ability to follow detailed instructions and protocols

Physical ability to handle and manipulate small samples and equipment
