Description

The department of Energy Express is currently accepting applications for a Temporary Energy Express Community Coordinator. The Energy Express Community Coordinator plays a critical role in connecting families, volunteers, and the broader community to an Energy Express site. Community Coordinators serve directly with volunteers, support daily site operations, and help create a safe, welcoming, and engaging learning environment for children participating in the program.

Stipend (Salary):

  • $5,615.08 (paid in four equal installments) June 1- July 24, 2026, for 300 hours plus required trainings

What You'll Do

  • Recruit, train, supervise, and support community volunteers ranging in age from 12 to 100 years old.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between primary adult caregivers, volunteers, and the Energy Express site.
  • Coordinate volunteers to read one-on-one and in small groups with children.
  • Ensure all adult volunteers are fully vetted by assisting with required background checks and completion of mandatory training videos for volunteers serving more than one visit.
  • Attend and actively participate in both statewide and local Energy Express trainings.
  • Conduct family meet-and-greet nights as part of family engagement efforts.
  • Collaborate daily with the site team (mentors, community coordinator, and site coordinator) to reflect on the day, engage in training, and prepare for upcoming activities.
  • Assist site teams in planning and completing a community service project.
  • Prepare and distribute a weekly site newsletter to families, sent home at the end of each week along with the children's weekly book.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • One (1) year of experience working with children, families, volunteers, or in a community-based or educational setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Ability to meet WVU and program background check requirements.
  • Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered.
  • All qualifications must be met by the time of employment.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of volunteer recruitment, coordination, and supervision
  • Knowledge of family engagement practices and community-based programming
  • Knowledge of youth literacy support and educational enrichment activities
  • Knowledge of child safety requirements, background check processes, and mandatory training protocol
  • Knowledge of Energy Express program policies, procedures, and service expectations (or ability to acquire)
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Skill in recruiting, training, supporting, and supervising volunteers of diverse ages and backgrounds.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Skill in planning and facilitating family engagement events and community-based activities.
  • Skill in collaboration and teamwork within a structured program environment
  • Skill in preparing written materials, including newsletters and family communications.
  • Ability to work effectively with children, families, volunteers, and program staff.
  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and meet program deadlines.
  • Ability to follow established policies, procedures, and reporting requirements.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and occasional weekends.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and pass required background checks.
