I. JOB OVERVIEW






Job Description Summary:
Established in 1865, The George Washington University Law School is the oldest in Washington, DC. The school is accredited by the American Bar Association and is a charter member of the Association of American Law Schools. The law school is located on the GW campus in the downtown neighborhood familiarly known as Foggy Bottom.

The Program Associate will be expected to support the Animal Law and Education Initiative in a range of administrative duties. The Program Associate will have the opportunity to engage in research and writing on Animal Law and related subjects and to seek publication of that work. This is a two-year position, term-limited.

The Program Associate will have the following duties and responsibilities:
The Program Associate Duties will include supporting:

  • the organization of lectures, colloquia, conferences, events, and receptions;
  • the administration of the partnership with the Oxford Centre for Animal Ethics;
  • the marketing strategy, publicity efforts, and social media presence of the Animal Law Initiative, including GW website information;
  • student advising regarding curricular offerings;
  • support recruitment efforts of JD students to GW Law School;
  • research and writing related to international and comparative law and to seek to publish that work.


Performs other work-related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Minimum Qualifications:
Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications:
Preferred Qualifications:

  • A BA degree or higher with coursework related to Animal Law is desired.
  • Strong administrative, academic, research, and writing skills are preferred.
  • Experience with communications and social media is desired.
  • Enjoys interacting with & helping students.
  • Proficient in utilizing Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, Google Drive, and similar operating systems.
  • Attentive to details.
  • Ability to be agile, skilled in prioritizing multiple assignments, and the ability to apply project management skills in order to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to interact with faculty, students, and staff in a team environment.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills are desired.
  • Strong writing and communication skills are preferred.

Hiring Range $51,455.52 - $84,850.51
