Description

Location: Carmel, Indiana; Eagan, Minnesota; Little Rock, Arkansas
Grade: 24
Hiring Manager: Geoff Brigham

If you're excited about applying advanced data science to real-world energy challenges, this role offers the chance to make a meaningful impact. As a Senior Data Scientist on MISO's Demand Response team, you'll work on complex analytics and machine learning initiatives that transform large, diverse datasets into insights that drive market and grid decisions. You'll partner closely with both technical and non-technical stakeholders to design, deploy, and operationalize solutions that unlock the value of demand response, distributed energy resources (DERs), and load-modifying resources. Along the way, you'll help set best practices, mentor teammates, and shape how data science supports MISO's mission to enable grid transformation and maximize market value.

As MISO's Senior Data Scientist, you will:

  • Build and maintain tools that use data to help create and evaluate market offers and understand how different energy resources perform in MISO's energy and capacity markets.
  • Use Python to create and test data models that help determine what makes a strong or weak market offer and how resources can participate more effectively.
  • Analyze large sets of data to spot trends, patterns, and issues in how demand response and other energy resources are performing.
  • Help put data models into real use by running and monitoring them on cloud platforms like Azure, and sharing results through dashboards and reports in tools like Power BI.
  • Write clean, well-documented code; conduct peer reviews; and mentor junior team members on data science, modeling techniques, and engineering best practices.

To be successful as MISO's Senior Data Scientist, we're looking for the following experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Data Analytics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or related technical field, with at least 4 years of relevant work experience
  • Delivering end-to-end data science solutions that move from problem definition to production, driving measurable improvements in market insights, operational decisions, or resource performance.
  • Applying machine learning, deep learning, and statistical techniques to solve complex, real-world problems and translate model outputs into clear, actionable recommendations.
  • Building models that meaningfully improve forecasting accuracy, performance evaluation, or decision-making in energy and market contexts.
  • Demonstrating a consistent ability to turn complex data into results that stakeholders can understand, trust, and use.

Appropriate level will be determined based upon experience and knowledge.
