Job Summary

Under minimal supervision performs supervisory functions over professional nursing and support staff in a Call Center setting including remote staff. Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates the nursing care of the departmental patients. Provides clinical support and acts as a resource to nursing staff in order to provide optimal patient care. Plans staffing to provide adequate coverage at all times.

Charge RN Hours & Schedule

Shift Length:

  • Between 8-10 hours

Schedule days:

  • 3-4 weekdays (Monday -Friday) depending on shift length assigned
  • 1 Weekend shift (Saturday or Sunday) The specific weekend day will be determined by Workforce Management based on Charge coverage needs.

1-On-Call shift a month

Shift Hours:

  • We are a 24/7 operation,
  • Current Need: PM Charge RN to work the hours of 1400-0030
  • Hours can change depending on business and coverage needs from one scheduling period to another, scheduling periods typically run 4 months.

Essential Functions:

  • Maintain work flow of Call Queue of the Nurse Advice Line (20%)
  • Maintain safety and quality of NurseLine (20%)
  • Collaboration and effective communication with Leadership and MDs (20%)
  • Data Analysis (20%)
  • Act as a resource to staff (20%)

Education:

  • Associate's Degree Nursing Required

Work Experience:

  • 1-3 years Three years of professional nursing experience Required

Licenses:

  • BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) - AHA - American Heart Association or American Red Cross Required and
  • RN-Registered Nurse - DORA - Department of Regulatory Agencies Required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of techniques, methods and competencies of clinical nursing practices.
  • Knowledge of safety principles and infection control in the patient care environment.
  • Ability to apply nursing principles, practices and techniques.
  • Ability to assess patients' needs and coordinate proper nursing care.
  • Utilizes the nursing process and adapts to the unique care environment of the telephone assessment to develop, implement, revise and update care plan; Performing initial and ongoing as appropriate in-depth, biopsycho-social assessment of diverse populations.
  • Recognizes stable and changing conditions.
  • Responds appropriately and quickly.
  • Skill to properly use medical instruments and laboratory equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal form.
  • Ability to contribute to the development of nursing staff by identifying learning needs and assisting with those needs.
  • Ability to ensure continuity of patient care by planning staff assignments, providing direct patient care as telephone triage assessment.
  • Ability to respond appropriately to emergency situations.
  • Ability to immediately and independently address issues/problems as they occur with patients and staff and escalate appropriately
  • Provides supervision and leadership for the team and unit.
  • Delegates appropriately and when necessary.
  • Makes decisions expediently regarding team assignments depending on volume, unit needs and required metrics for call center contracts.
  • Established priorities, assigns/reviews work and resolves problems.
  • Addresses negative behavior and follows up as needed.
  • Acts as a liaison with callers wishing to speak to supervisor.
  • Handles and addresses caller's needs and alerts leadership as appropriate.
  • Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, receiving current literature and attending charge/staff meetings.
  • Receives and gives shift change reports to others as appropriate and maintains departmental logs as required.
  • Communicates issues to manager using shift report.
  • Is able to act as a preceptor to new staff in both patient care and documentation practice requirements specific to the Nurse Line.
  • Ensures documentation is complete, concise and reflects care given.
  • Documents completely complying with policy and procedures in regards to hospital policies and procedures.
  • Performs documentation audits as assigned.
  • Maintains close, effective and accurate communications with Nursing Operations Manager, counterparts, Administrator on Call, Nursing Managers, Risk Management, Security, and Building Administration and can articulate information needed.
  • Takes a lead role in the staffing planning, evaluations, process Improvements, key clinical pathway development with implementation and project tracking
  • Promotes positive interpersonal (customer) relationships with fellow employees, physicians, patients and visitors. Treats these individuals with courtesy, dignity, empathy and respect; consistently displays courteous and respectful verbal and non-verbal communications.
  • Microsoft office Suite required.
  • Epic preferred.
  • Cisco preferred.
