Job Overview

Komatsu Company-Owned Dealers is a major distributor of Komatsu and Allied OEM heavy construction equipment in the northeast and is owned by Komatsu America Corporation. The Financial Controller is responsible for leading all accounting and controllership functions for a construction equipment dealer generating approximately $340M in annual revenue. This role ensures accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, regulatory compliance, and disciplined financial operations across a complex, asset-intensive business.


This is a hands-on leadership role that partners closely with FP&A, Operations, HR, and Tax to translate business activity into reliable financial outcomes. The Controller owns the integrity of the numbers-period.


This position is required to be onsite 4-days per week at our branch in Hatfield, PA.

Key Job Responsibilities

Financial Reporting & Close



  • Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring timeliness, accuracy, and consistency
  • Prepare and review financial statements in accordance with GAAP
  • Lead balance sheet integrity, including reconciliations, reserves, and judgmental estimates
  • Explain financial results and variances to Finance leadership with clarity and credibility


Accounting Operations



  • Oversee all general accounting functions including GL, AP, AR, fixed assets, inventory, payroll accounting, and revenue recognition
  • Ensure proper accounting for construction equipment sales, rentals, parts, service, and long-term contracts
  • Maintain disciplined accounting for inventory valuation, warranty reserves, depreciation, and impairment
  • Establish scalable processes as the business grows or changes


Internal Controls & Compliance



  • Design, implement, and maintain strong internal controls over financial reporting
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, company policies, and external audit requirements
  • Act as primary liaison for external auditors and internal audit activities
  • Support tax compliance activities in partnership with Tax (income, sales/use, property)


Leadership & Talent Development



  • Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing accounting team
  • Set clear expectations, accountability, and performance standards
  • Drive continuous improvement through process automation, documentation, and standardization
  • Build bench strength and succession within the accounting organization


Cross-Functional Partnership



  • Partner with FP&A to ensure clean handoffs between actuals, forecasts, and planning
  • Collaborate with Operations and Sales to ensure accounting reflects operational reality
  • Support system implementations and enhancements (ERP, reporting tools, controls)
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to leadership on accounting implications of business decisions

Qualifications/Requirements

Required:



  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
  • CPA required
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including controllership or senior accounting leadership
  • Experience in a complex, asset-intensive business (construction, manufacturing, distribution, or similar)
  • Deep knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting requirements
  • Proven experience leading month-end close in a fast-paced environment


Preferred:



  • Experience in construction equipment, heavy machinery, or dealer-based business models
  • ERP implementation or optimization experience (S/4HANA or similar strongly preferred)
  • Experience partnering with FP&A and operational leaders
  • Prior experience in a multi-location or multi-entity environment
