Job Summary

Functions independently with full understanding of all components of the revenue cycle. Completes complex projects of diverse scope. Independently analyzes and resolves highly complex billing and reimbursement issues, including correction of claims, charge routing, and system configuration errors. Applies knowledge of payer contracts and coordination of benefits to correct billing issues, mitigate reimbursement risk, and ensure accurate and compliant claims submission.

Evaluates trends across denials, accounts receivable, and reimbursement outcomes to set workflow priorities and recommend and implement process, system, and policy improvements that support efficient service delivery models and maximization of reimbursement.

Partners with clinical, revenue cycle, compliance, and financial services teams to design, implement, and sustain compliant billing workflows and system solutions, including escalation pathways and alternative reimbursement strategies for complex claims and funding scenarios, in alignment with internal policies and external regulatory requirements., and sustain compliant billing workflows and system solutions

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $91,600 - $139,700 (Annual Rate).

Department Description

The Adult Pulmonary Function Laboratory is administratively housed within the Cardiovascular Research Institute (CVRI). The laboratory performs diagnostic testing as part of the clinical evaluation and treatment of patients referred from UCSF Medical Center and external facilities with a wide range of pulmonary diseases. These services also support select clinical research protocols conducted by Pulmonary attending physicians and provide training for medical students, residents, and Pulmonary fellows during their rotations on the Pulmonary Service at Moffitt-Long Hospitals.

The CVRI Bronchoscopy Technician services support the procedural needs of the Lung Transplant, Interventional Pulmonology, and Adult Pulmonary Consult Services. These services enable physicians to diagnose and manage conditions such as infection, lung cancer, lung transplant rejection, and other urgent diagnostic or therapeutic needs. Bronchoscopy Services ensure procedural readiness by coordinating specialized equipment, supporting clinical workflows, and facilitating safe and efficient bronchoscopy procedures across inpatient and outpatient settings.

Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Minimum 3 years of related experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of the practices, procedures, and concepts of the healthcare revenue cycle and its component operations, including billing, collections, charge capture, contractual adjustments, third-party reimbursements, and cash management.
  • Thorough understanding of the issues, processes, reporting instruments, metrics, analytics, and other tools and techniques involved with measuring and analyzing the revenue cycle.
  • Detail oriented, with proven ability to effectively manage time, see tasks and projects through to completion, organize competing priorities, and effectively address complex, urgent issues as they arise.
  • Strong skills in report development, dashboard design, and various software tools specific to healthcare revenue cycle management. Skills in common database, spreadsheet and presentation software.
  • Strong communications skills, with the ability to interpret and convey complex clinical finance information in a clear, concise manner. Ability to prepare compelling and informative reports and presentations.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to evaluate the effectiveness of workflows and systems and propose innovative solutions.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively on complex projects in a team environment with staff from a wide variety of business and clinical areas.
  • Proven ability to work with managers, serving as a technical resource, providing recommendations and advice on regulatory changes, and industry trends and developments in revenue cycle management.
