The Position

2026 Summer Intern - Computational Biology and Medicine - Immunology

Department Summary

Advances in AI, data, and computational sciences are transforming drug discovery and development. Roche's Research and Early Development organisations at Genentech (gRED) and Pharma (pRED) have demonstrated how these technologies accelerate R&D, leveraging data and novel computational models to drive impact. The new Computational Sciences Center of Excellence (CoE) is a strategic, unified group whose goal is to harness this transformative power of data and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to assist our scientists in both pRED and gRED to deliver more innovative and transformative medicines for patients worldwide.

The Immunology and CVRM team within the CS-CoE Computational Biology and Medicine department is seeking a highly motivated Summer Intern with a strong background in computational biology and immunology as well as deep experience with single-cell RNA-seq of granular cell states.

This internship position is located in New York City, On - Site.

The Opportunity

The internship focuses on an integrative analysis of scRNA-seq data taken from IBD patient biopsies and blood samples. The core goal is to uncover precursor cell states that drive disease pathology and identify their stimulating cues through comparative analysis of transcriptional programs in patients and healthy individuals. The insights generated will directly inform therapeutic targets and development discovery strategies.

  • Execute end-to-end processing for high-resolution scRNA-seq analysis (e.g., Metacells, SEACells), including QC, doublet removal, cell-type annotation, multi-layered clustering, and deep immunological characterization.

  • Integrate the scRNA-seq findings with in-vitro stimulation datasets to identify key drivers of cell-states and their regulatory mechanisms.

  • Infer differentiation trajectories across blood and tissue cell states to explain molecular patient-to-patient heterogeneity and response to treatment.

Program Highlights

  • Intensive 12-week, full-time (40 hours per week) paid internship.

  • Program start dates are in May/June 2026.

  • A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship.

  • Ownership of challenging and impactful business-critical projects.

  • Work with some of the most talented people in the biotechnology industry.
