The Manager of Innovation & AI serves as a strategic catalyst within White & Case's award-winning Innovation & AI team, driving the firm's vision to redefine legal technology leadership. This role is responsible for evaluating, implementing, and accelerating the adoption of cutting-edge technology and AI solutions, ensuring the firm remains at the forefront of industry advancement. By partnering with cross-functional experts and the broader Practice Solutions team, the Manager spearheads transformative initiatives - spanning internal and client-facing consultancy opportunities focused on innovation and AI - that deliver measurable impact across practice groups and offices. Through the orchestration and optimisation of attorney workflows, this position enables the firm to achieve strategic objectives with rigor and agility, reinforcing White & Case's unwavering commitment to operational excellence and continuous innovation.
Duties and Accountabilities1
Client Innovation, Advisory & Thought Leadership
- Act as a trusted innovation adviser to clients, supporting strategic conversations on AI, legal technology, and new delivery models in line with the Firm's Client Innovation Strategy.
- Represent the Firm externally through conferences, roundtables, publications, and social channels, building its reputation as a market-leading innovator.
- Produce high-impact client- and firm-facing materials (presentations, reports, playbooks, demos) that translate emerging technology into practical legal value.
Practice Engagement & Demand Shaping
- Build deep relationships with regional and global practice groups, acting as a strategic partner for their innovation priorities.
- Shape, qualify, and structure innovation opportunities using the Firm's frameworks to ensure alignment with firmwide strategy, client needs, and commercial goals.
- Capture and prioritise practice requirements, feeding a coherent, evidence-based pipeline into the wider Practice Solutions teams.
Solution Design & Delivery
- Advise lawyers, legal operations teams, and clients on the optimal use of technology and AI across matters, including contract automation, document review, transaction management, and knowledge workflows.
- Translate legal use cases into solution designs, working with product, engineering, and vendors to ensure fit for purpose and scalability.
- Oversee end-to-end delivery of innovation initiatives and client programmes, ensuring quality, timelines, and stakeholder satisfaction.
Technology Enablement & Adoption
- Lead or support the evaluation, selection, implementation, and rollout of new technologies, with a strong focus on AI platforms and data-driven tools.
- Coordinate across IT, Information Security, Procurement, Knowledge, and Risk to ensure solutions are secure, compliant, and commercially viable.
- Drive adoption by embedding tools into real matters, training teams, and identifying high-value use cases.
Operational & Programme Ownership
- Take accountability for the performance of live lawyer- and client-facing innovation programmes, including delivery, resourcing, and continuous improvement.
- Track usage, outcomes, and client feedback to refine solutions and demonstrate value.
- Manage dependencies and risks across multiple concurrent initiatives.
Commercial & Strategic Accountability
- Support business cases and ROI tracking for innovation investments.
- Ensure initiatives contribute to revenue growth, margin improvement, client retention, or strategic differentiation.
- Maintain visibility over the innovation pipeline, recommending where to invest, pause, or stop.
Governance, Risk & Standards
- Ensure all innovation activity complies with firm policies on data protection, confidentiality, AI governance, and client obligations.
- Apply consistent triage, approval, and escalation processes for new ideas and client requests.
- Document learnings, playbooks, and standards to enable repeatable delivery at scale.
Global Collaboration
- Work across offices and regions, including international travel where required, to support clients, practices, and strategic initiatives.
Qualifications, Experience, and Skills
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Law, Computer Science, Business, or a related discipline; postgraduate or professional qualifications in technology, data, or innovation are a plus.
- Experience in legal innovation, management consulting, legaltech, or technology-enabled professional services, ideally within a global law firm, Big Four or MBB, or comparable advisory environment.
- Demonstrated experience delivering client-facing programmes or advisory engagements involving technology, change, or new service models.
- Strong understanding of AI and data-driven technologies, particularly Generative AI and their application to legal and professional-services workflows.

- Project & programme management - able to run multiple complex initiatives concurrently, managing scope, risk, dependencies, and delivery.
- Technology & Vendor Capability - experience working with enterprise software, AI platforms, and legaltech vendors, including selection, contracting, implementation, and ongoing relationship management; ability to test, evaluate, and provide structured feedback on new technologies in real legal-matter contexts.
Communication & Influence
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts into practical, lawyer- and client-relevant insights.
- Comfortable producing high-quality client and leadership-level materials, including presentations, reports, and thought leadership.
Governance, Risk & Ethics
- Understanding of data protection, confidentiality, and ethical considerations relating to AI and legal technology in a regulated professional-services environment.
- Ability to operate within governance frameworks while still driving pace, experimentation, and innovation.

- Fluent in English; international experience or a global working mindset is an advantage.
