Research Pharmacy Technician Coordinator

Under the direction of the Research Pharmacist, follows established policies and procedures to perform a variety of advanced technical and clerical support tasks that are vital to the operation of the Research Pharmacy service. Tasks include assisting with all aspects of dispensing, compounding, labeling, storage, recording, and proper use of pharmaceutical preparations for research subjects.

Licenses and Credentials

  • MA Pharmacy Technician License - required

  • Pharmacy Technician Certification [CPhT], Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) - required

Experience

  • Pharmacy Technician experience 3-5 years required

  • Experience with Research/Investigation Drug Study and/or Sterile/Non-sterile Preparations preferred.

Shift Scheduling

  • Day Shift/Weekday, excluding weekends and holidays

Education

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Attention to detail.

  • Proficient with standard PC software: Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint.

  • Effective computer and keyboarding skills.

  • Working knowledge of pharmacy information and inventory systems.

  • Familiarity with pharmacy practice settings, legal requirements and limitations, prescription information and calculations, drug identification and generic equivalents, drug manufacturing, packaging and labeling information, and proper drug handling and storage practices.

  • Ability to manage several priorities and deadlines simultaneously.



Operational Responsibility

  • Timely and accurately fulfills all research pharmacy dispense requests
  • Maintains drug accountability records Compounds dosage forms in accordance with Department Policies and Procedures, USP <795>, and <797> and all applicable state and federal regulations
  • Documents temperature and humidity monitoring
  • Initiates, organizes, submits, and reconciles charges in a timely, accurate manner
  • Monitors Research Pharmacy workload and coordinates communication, prioritization, and completion of tasks
  • Assists pharmacists with the development and implementation of study records Ensures regular completion of inventory tasks in accordance with Department Policies and Procedures, individual study requirements, and all applicable state and federal laws
  • Serves as a contact for the McLean research community
  • Procures, receives, stocks, returns, expires, and wastes research pharmaceuticals appropriately
  • Delivers prepared investigational product to research team
  • Responds to telephone, window, and email requests
  • Maintains integrity of controlled substances and investigational products
  • Displays discretion in maintaining blind and privacy of research information
  • Ensures Research Pharmacy maintains clean, organized environment
  • Participates in study team meetings and sponsor visits as required
  • Continuously assesses productivity and performance of Research Pharmacy and provides recommendations for optimization to administration
  • Tracks and allots Research Pharmacy staff hours
  • Completes assigned projects accurately, reliably, and in a timely manner
