THE POSITION

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Vocational Rehabilitation Supervisor, you will be implementing the goals of the VR program through assigning, scheduling, directing, and monitoring work in the unit. You will be responsible for updating participant records, establishing performance goals and objectives, handling grievances and complaints, and initiating progressive and/or corrective disciplinary action for subordinates. Work also involves ensuring program eligibility and the quality of case services through the review and analysis of case records and case conferences with Vocational Rehabilitation Counselors. You will have the opportunity to facilitate in-service training sessions in order to maintain staff awareness of changing concepts and new policies and procedures, as well as ensure uniform application of established regulations. Additional responsibilities include:

  • Acting as a technical resource to District Office staff, management, and the community
  • Maintaining active, ongoing community liaison with public and private organizations, agencies, advocacy groups, and consumers to assess and modify the delivery of services
  • Participating in advisory groups and associations to enhance the effective delivery of services to persons with disabilities
  • Monitoring the unit's expenditure of funds for the purchase of case services

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, upon successful completion of the training period. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
  • Salary: Most employees will start at the beginning level of the advertised salary.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor; Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor, Deaf and Hard of Hearing; Vision Rehabilitation Therapist; or Orientation and Mobility Specialist (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Two years as a Social Worker 2 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration) in the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation; or
  • Two years of professional experience in a public vocational rehabilitation program; AND possession of an active Certified Rehabilitation Counselor certificate issued by the Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification; or
  • Two years of professional experience in a public vocational rehabilitation program; AND a master's degree in vocational rehabilitation, mental health, special education, social work, human services, psychology, business administration, human resources, public administration, or a closely related field.

Other Requirements:

  • PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
