Why This Role Is Critical

This role sits at the intersection of reactor safety, operational excellence, and utility partnership. As a Pressurized Water Reactor (PWR) Expert, this position serves as a trusted technical and operational authority supporting all phases of the PWR refueling lifecycle from early planning through outage execution and post-refuel evaluation.

The expertise in this role is critical to ensuring refueling outages are safe, efficient, predictable, and continuously improving. Our customers depend on this role for informed decision-making during highpressure, highvisibility outage environments where experience matters as much as technical knowledge.

Successful performance in this role requires deep, firsthand experience in PWR refueling operations. Ideal candidates bring prior involvement with the PWR Owners Group, experience as a utility Refueling Manager, or leadership within outage or fuel handling organizations at a nuclear utility.

This background provides immediate credibility with customers and internal teams alike. Having navigated real-world refueling challenges, this expert understands outage pressures, fuel movement risks, schedule constraints, and the operational realities that cannot be learned from procedures alone.

What You'll Do Day-To-Day

Serve as a subject matter authority for PWR refueling activities, advising utilities on best practices, risk mitigation strategies, and execution approaches.
  • Partner directly with utility refueling and outage teams, providing on-site support during critical evolutions.
  • Translate operational experience into actionable technical guidance and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support and mentor teams based in Lynchburg, strengthening internal refueling and outage expertise.
  • Act as a bridge between engineering, operations, and utility stakeholders to align technical rigor with outage execution realities.
  • Leverage industry experience to influence standards, approaches, and long-term refueling strategy.

What You'll Bring

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field.
  • Minimum of 15 years of nuclear industry experience is required or extensive equivalent work experience in lieu of degree.
  • Expert knowledge of related engineering standards, techniques, criteria and analysis.
  • Exceptional knowledge and recognized technical expertise of a technical specialty.
  • Ability to set strategy and vision for medium to large size organization.
  • Excellent communication skills to work effectively with all levels of staff and management, vendors and customers.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability to manage multiple tasks and projects through managers/supervisors.
  • Excellent problem identification and resolution skills.

Total Rewards Package

  • Health & Wellness: Multiple medical plan options, dental & vision coverage, life insurance, long- and short-term disability, and optional supplemental plans (critical illness, accident, hospital indemnity, dependent life).
  • Retirement: 401(k) with employer match.
