Position Summary
This a part-time .40 FTE Specialist, Speech position that will diagnose and treat communication and swallowing disorders in children and adults and provide treatment as needed; use specialized equipment to fully assess and treat speech disorders. Advise colleagues on select cases, supervise speech pathology students, and develop programs in conjunction with the Director. Participate in the education of students, residents, physicians, and healthcare professionals by developing educational materials, presenting lectures and in-service education, and speaking with community groups.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Utilize appropriate diagnostic instruments and specialized tests to diagnose the nature of communication and/or swallowing disorders and interpret findings.
  • Diagnose and treat patients that are referred to the specialist from the primary physician.
  • Develop and administer a plan of care and formulate goals for future therapy sessions.
  • Provide education and counseling to individuals with communication and swallowing disorders and their family members.
  • Create home programs and instruct patients in the use of corrective techniques.
  • Present lectures and in-service education for medical students, resident physicians, attending physicians, nurses and other health care professionals.
  • Identify and create programs, processes, and policies designed to improve the delivery of patient care.
  • Assist in developing annual budget.
  • Complete billing, productivity statistics and special reports as needed.
  • May perform research projects concerned with developing new clinical approaches or tools in accordance with areas of professional interest and expertise.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

Masters in Speech Pathology and Communication Disorders required.

License and current registration to practice as a Speech-Language Pathologist in IL required.

ASHA Certified required.

Minimum of one (1) year experience diagnosing and treating speech, communication and swallowing disorders.

Experience in Video fluoroscopic Swallow Studies preferred.

Strong written and verbal communication skills, interpersonal skills required.
