  • Oversee multiple B61 storage bunkers, including efforts to reduce B61 explosive inventory.
  • Build, manage, configure, and oversee development builds for B61 Joint Test Assemblies (JTAs) and contribute to prototype and development hardware builds for ongoing B61 projects.
  • Organize and supervise B61 lab space, including consolidating and configuring bay hardware, layout, and tools.
  • Update technical drawings and engineering documentation while providing oversight for JTA production work at KCNSC and PX, as well as creating and managing technical work procedures.
  • Collaborate closely with a dedicated team of technologist and engineers at KCNSC, PX, and SNL to deliver quality products in support of the B61 JTA mission.
  • Interface with NNSA and production agencies to manage hardware logistics for B61 JTAs and stockpile activities at PX.
  • Manage OTAs and related paperwork for the movement of B61 JTA/6D assets.
  • Apply analysis and problem-solving techniques to production, stockpile evaluation, and maintenance activities.
  • Oversee and coordinate the disposition of units in 867 corporate storage.

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite. Occasional travel will be required.

About Our Team

The B61 Systems Engineering Department plays a crucial role in supporting the nuclear deterrence mission by conducting annual assessments of system safety, surety, and reliability. It also provides design agency engineering support to production agencies. This department collaborates with various organizations across the Laboratory, including other system groups, stockpile surveillance, materials research, science and engineering, and computational modeling and simulation, to design and execute studies focused on aging, reliability, and safety.

We partner with external stakeholders such as the National Nuclear Security Administration, the Department of Defense and its contractors, Los Alamos National Laboratory, and the Kansas City National Security Campus, as well as Pantex production plants. These collaborations are essential for ensuring the continued success of the B61 mission. The department is actively involved with the B61-13 and plays a key role in planning the transition of this modernization program into sustainment.

Posting Duration

This posting will be open for application submissions for a minimum of seven (7) calendar days, including the 'posting date'. Sandia reserves the right to extend the posting date at any time.

Security Clearance

Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q security clearance to start, or equivalent active security clearance with another U.S. government agency (e.g., DOD). Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.

Applicants offered employment with Sandia are subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment.

EEO

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, or veteran status and any other protected class under state or federal law.

NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs

If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.

If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.
