Job Overview:

The RWJBH Assistant Vice President, Infection Prevention will be accountable for system infection prevention best practices leading to healthcare acquired infection reduction/prevention and supporting system operational excellence in clinical quality, patient safety and patient experience performance.

This executive role reports directly to the System Senior Vice President, Patient Safety & Quality and will establish and implement strategic initiatives, develop quality priorities specific to reduction of hospital acquired infections, ensure infection prevention standards are in place across all inpatient and outpatient locations, utilize quality data analytics to drive and sustain performance, and develop/operationalize a system infection prevention program across the RWJBH network of 14 hospitals, service lines and, as identified, ambulatory health care settings.

This role includes (a) ensuring all required regulatory reporting for healthcare required infections is performance and (b) to evaluate, design, lead, and implement a coordinated approach to clinical quality performance and processes for prevention of hospital and healthcare acquired infections, (c) demonstrated proactive leadership with effectiveness to influence and foster change, and (d) ensure clinical excellence of quality and patient safety outcomes in infection prevention and performance improvement,

This role will provide centralized, enterprise-wide operational support to our hospitals with subject matter expertise in infection prevention and control, hospital and healthcare acquired condition performance improvement, matrixing with embedded local clinical and quality resources team members and regionalizing a central infection prevention model to lead infection prevention staff and support specialty infectious disease providers,

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor degree in a relevant healthcare or business field required
  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities, with a proven track record of building effective relationships with diverse stakeholders, including clinical staff, management, executive leaders, and external partners
  • Proven skills in leadership, strategic planning, and quality improvement initiatives, with the ability to drive organizational change and foster a culture of continuous improvement
  • Project management skills with the ability to facilitate cross-functional collaboration to drive system and local quality performance
  • Experience working with and interpreting clinical and operational data
  • Demonstrated strong analytical skills

Preferred:

  • Master s degree in relevant healthcare or business field preferred
  • Vizient Clinical Database and Epic proficiency preferred
  • A minimum of 5-7 years demonstrated healthcare leadership experience, specifically within acute care settings
  • A minimum of 3 years of engagement in system wide healthcare quality and process improvement with a foundational knowledge of key metrics impacting value-based care metrics, reputation/care experience, quality, and patient safety

License and Certifications Required:

  • Certified in Infection Control (CIC) or similar is required
  • Lean Six Sigma Certification, Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ), or similar credentials in healthcare quality is preferred

Essential Job Functions:

Strategic Leadership

  • Develop and implement the infection prevention strategy across the health system,
  • Collaborate with executive leadership to align infection prevention goals with organizational objectives,
  • Provide expertise on infection prevention policies and best practices
  • Serve as system expert resource and lead for local Infection Prevention teams, Infection Disease Interdisciplinary Collaborative and Quality leadership group at all RWJBH clinical locations
  • Ensure required surveillance and regulatory reporting of healthcare acquired infections and infection prevalence at RWJBH clinical settings

Infection Prevention System Program Development and Implementation

  • Establish regional infection prevention team model that provides cross site inter-rater reliability for surveillance reporting and fosters positive team engagement
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations regarding infection prevention
  • Lead initiatives to improve patient safety and reduce healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) across the system
  • Subject matter expert in current evidence-based practices from Association of Professionals in Infection Prevention (APIC) and knowledgeable about the Infectious Disease Society of America guidelines

Quality Improvement

  • Lead quality improvement initiatives focused on infection prevention and control
  • Participate in interdisciplinary committees to enhance overall quality and safety of care
  • Understand and drive improvement in benchmarking through the lens of local and national quality and ranking methodologies, including U.S.News & World Report, Vizient Q&A, Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades and CMS Star Ratings,

Data Management and Analysis

  • Monitor infection rates and trends using data analytics to inform decision-making,
  • Oversee and analyze internal and external performance benchmporting of infection data to regulatory bodies and internal stakeholders
  • Utilize evidence-based research to guide infection prevention strategies

Education and Training

  • Develop and implement training programs for healthcare staff on infection prevention practices
  • Support onboarding of clinical quality resource staff across the continuum
  • Promote a culture of safety and awareness regarding infection prevention throughout the organization

Collaboration and Communication

  • Build and maintain effective relationships with clinical staff including medicine and nursing partners, infection control teams, and department heads to influence and ensure effective infection control practices
  • Serve as a liaison with external agencies and organizations related to infection prevention
  • Identifies opportunities for strategic system integration to increase efficiencies in capturing actionable insights
  • Monitor trends and influence strategy: awareness of system performance trends, as well as national healthcare landscape and adjust strategy, analytics and data visualizations and targets to realign system approach to safeguard quality performance
  • Assess and inform RWJBH strategy and implementation of initiatives to drive clinical quality, patient safety and patient experience performance defined by destination goals approved by the System Board of Directors
